How would you feel if your girlfriend of 6 years cheated on you with some jerk? And then that jerk went to become champion and your still floating around mid-lower card status? I'd say that she made what I'd call an "upgrade" Edge was already on his way up the card, he had won MITB earlier in the year. This whole Matt/Lita thing was great for Edge's career because it gave him so much heat, whether its right or wrong. Matt had a chance (I guess) of being a star, but his 1st promo when he came back showed he had no chance, as Edge owned him there too. I'd like to see the look on your face if your girl made a similar "upgrade". I'm willing to bet that you might understand why Matt got upset. What's worse, Edge was one of his best friends, if not his best friend. That was a double betrayal. Even more, Matt gave her the chance to stop and she didn't. I would be super pissed myself. Also, this all came out long before Edge won the MITB. Edge was sort of floundering in midcard hell, so the only "upgrade" was that Edge was working while Matt was home recovering from a career threatening injury. |

As much as I sympathize with Matt, I also tend to think that there was a lot of this story that he spin-doctored. Since we never got the other side of the story, its hard to know for sure.
Its funny that two years after the fact everyone still talks about it when all of the people involved have moved on.

Didn't seem so nice to him when the boot was on the other foot, did it? Which is probably why he gave her a chance to quit instead of instantly throwing her out. In fact, he also waited a while to have her stuff removed from his website (which is what eventually clued everyone into the fact that the diva from the rumours two months earlier was in fact Lita). Honestly, until his fans on his website kept reaching out to him in support, he was taking the whole thing rather stoically as opposed to being emo about it. |

I thought they split off screen a while ago. Yeah, pretty much when the whole thing broke. Edge went back to his brand-new wife to patch things up. So not only did Lita have the entire crowd shrieking SLUT at her, but she didn't even have anything to show for it. |

Yeah, Matt and Ashley apparently split up, but it seemed like a pretty emo-less breakup, as they're still friends.
