I guess I'll post it here since it'll probably most likely apply to today. So as the topic says, what wrestlers did you never expect would be eventers in WWE?
JBL: I honestly thought he was going to be stuck in the tag and hardcore division. When he got his new look and heel gimmick it seemed to go places. His heel run worked for me since, he beat the champion I marked out for, somehow always won (No Way Out match with Big Show), and managed to piss off the fans/IWC.
Edge: Sure winning the KotR is a launching point in one's career but nothing happened that I could remember. The moment he challenged Cenamania I thought he was really good again.
Eddie Guerrero: I enjoyed his run with the WWE title. Huge upset for me when I saw Brock lose. Rest his soul.
Rey Mysterio: Again, I thought size alone I thought would hamper him. Though his main event run was booked poorly.

Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, The Deranged Mankind, that dark loner Edge, Hunter Hearst Helmsley, The Ringmaster, Deacon Batista, that plain guy John Cena who wrestled Angle that one night on SmackDown!, Rocky Maivia, that curly-haired guy who's Bob Orton's son
all them and more

Batista. Until late 2004, I thought he'd be your obligatory midcard hoss until an eventual release from his contract.

During 2004 I thought Batista. It was the time we were calling him Botchtista cause of his sloppy in-ring skills(remember when he KOed Jericho with a botched clothesline?) and poor selling.
He improve for a while and then he got injured more than once and now he is crap again.

JBL and Edge, by far. Those two were/are total head scratchers, as to why they ever got to main event. Another from the olden days is Ric Flair and Bret Hart. While Bret is understood, Flair always comes off as a curtain jerker.

JBL was SO out of left field that he probably makes everyone's list.
Never thought Orton would amount to much when I first saw him. Didn't really expect Eddie Guerrero to go as far as he did, although I hoped that he would.

I really didn't see Umaga's push paying off.
Definitely Bradshaw
I actually never thought Benoit could do it. Don't be mad at me, but he just didn't have the size, look, or personality that WWE likes in main eventers. God bless him for proving a lot of people wrong and clinching it at WMXX.
Rocky at first with the tassles and smile and mini fro
Actually, Ultimate Warrior. I always hated him from day one. I hated it so much when he got a match at Wrestlemania 6 and beat Hogan. I think I cried. I never liked him as champ.

I think, during his title reign (and I'm probably wrong) his only main event was WMXX.

Orton, given how ridiculously green he was and his god-awful work with the Unamericans back on Raw circa 2002, I never though Randy would get anywhere, name or not.

JBL, Mark Henry JBL I grew to love, Henry is always trash I actually never thought Benoit could do it. Well, in all actuality, was Benoit really a main eventer. I think, during his title reign (and I'm probably wrong) his only main event was WMXX. He had a PPV defense against Triple H I believe, and also main evented Summerslam against Orton at least. He also main evented as a challenger many times.

Benoit main evented on and off for awhile actually. He main evented for a bit in 01 before his injury, main evented in parts of 02-03 with Angle and those different storylines, then got the big push in 04. He main evented Mania, Backlash, Vengeance, and Summerslam during his reign.

Umaga, I'm surprised he got the push in the first place.
