now i know DAVID ARQUETTE winning a WRESTLING title was just the lamest thing EVER, but was it possibly the worst thing EVER? WCW was basically dead, so why not feed the title to a guy making a movie about WCW. for me the rivallry of will sasso and bret hart takes the cake, will sasso actually beats possibly the best wrestler ever and arquette winning a title seems worse??
k i realise most of this is either recent WWE or classic WCW but give your 2 cents...we all know how wacky and zany wrestling can get...and probably has...unfortunatly

How dare you include the West Texas Rednecks. That was awesome. Want to include Master P, then I'm down with it. But nothing is Curt's fault. After all, the guy was perfect.

A skinny ass celebrity was the world champion of WCW. That's all that needs to be said.

Although he only beat Eric Bischoff to get the belt, Arquette is still the worst. It hurts the credibility of your company and belt to have some guy that's never wrestled before become champion.

Did Will Sasso actually ever beat Bret Hart? My memory on this has always been cloudy. I know for a fact that Sasso caused Bret Hart to lose the U.S. Title to Roddy Piper. He interfered in that match. And I know that Sasso and Bret wrestled after that. But I always thought Bret won the match. Don't get me wrong here....The fact that the 2 feuded is seriously rank Wrestlecrap. But I really don't think that Bret ever lost to him. Can someone please prove me wrong?

I dont think Bret Lost to Will Sasso. If I remeber corretly (feel free to prove me wrong) I think Debra Wilson screwed him and Bret ended up winning. Then again I could be wrong. And yes that West Texas Rednecks gimmick was frickin awesome IMO. You had Master P (who was on the verge of being washed up at the time) and all the rest of his non talented NO Limit soldiers trying to wrestle. That probally was 9.5 out of 10 on the unintentional comedy scale. And that "Rap is Crap" song was awesome.

The Arquette championship reign was pretty bad but SuperCena(the most hated face champion I can remember)comes in a close second

The difference between the Arquette thing and the others is, And please try to understand this...It was ALWAYS billed as a fluke, and NO ONE took it seriously, unlike the other stuff listed.
People need to get over this, really, it's not even close to being the worst.

OK. I researched it. On February 9, 1999, Bret Hart lost the U.S. Title to Roddy Piper because Sasso interfered. The next week (February 16, 1999), Bret beat Sasso with the Sharpshooter. They did not wrestle on the Thunders in between, and to my knowledge, they never faced off at a house show. So, Will Sasso did not beat Bret Hart. The feud sucked, but it's not nearly as bad as some of us are making it out to be.

ANYTHING Hogan got 2 votes? Yeah, because Wrestlemania 3 and the first 6 months of the nWo were so terrible to sit through....

The Arquette thing was a tremendous low for WCW, but Arquette deserves a lot of credit for the following:
1.) he fought with Russo to not be given the belt, because as a wrestling fan heknew the fans would hate the premise. 2.) he gave all the money he made in WCW to the families of Brian Pillman, Owen Hart, and some to Droz.
So out of a terrible angle and a nail in the coffin for WCW came this really great gesture of goodwill.

It was silly, and dumb, even in your dark days, you don't try to hotshot a belt onto a B-list celebrity to get ratings/buyrates. Dumb, makes wrestling look dumb for doing it.

Wrestling has looked "Dumb" Loooooooooooooooong before Arquette won the belt. Sigh...No one took his title reign seriously. It was acknowlegded IN The Story Line that it was a fluke and no one could believe it. I can't see how it made wrestling look dumb when it was CLEARLY not your typical title win or reign, nor was it billed that way. [/quote] I guess we'll agree to disagree, because why put him in there in the first place, hell let's just have skinny celebrities win belts all over the place, while we're at it? Sorry, I understand what you mean, but it shouldn't have happened, I don't care how much in the dumps WCW was at the time. Fluke or not, he shouldn't have got the belt, did those idiots think that the Slamboree buyrate would go through the roof if they billed Arquette defending vs. Jarrett/DDP? That was stupid, and naturally it bombed big time.
