I see what a lot of people here are saying about not donating money to Konnan.
I genuinely feel sorry for the guy, but he has been a pretty well known star for quite some time so surely he might have saved some money.
Regardless of whether he did or not, I don't think there should ever have been a public appeal, TNA should have donated the cost.

Yeah but then they ruin your credit. In early 2006, I had to be rushed to the emergency room because I had some sort of infection in my digestive system that was just running wild on me, making me vomit and poop all over the place like crazy and I had crippling pain that saw me stuck on the floor unable to move. Problem was I had been out of work for 7 months at that point after being wrongly fired and had spent all my savings on bills. The moral of the story: Dont ever go to the hospital for any reason if you dont have insurance. Or, like Joekishi said, unless you're an illegal immigrant.

I can totally see why people would not want to donate money for Konnan, but as a professional wrestler myself, I feel for the guy, and hell, one dollar isn't going to kill me, or the 50 dollars that I donated.

Alright, not far away from a new paycheck, so I should be donating soon.

As for why we should donate: A) don't equate Konnan with Donald Trump when it comes to money. B) We shouldn't judge a person based on how well or poorly they saved the money they made. Hell, a TON of people who win the lottery end up in debt up to their noses because they don't know how to handle moving up so fast economically. Not saying that happened to Konnan, but the fact is that money can dissapear a LOT faster than most people imagine.

From what I've heard, Konnan is a good man, and an inspiration to many current generation wrestlers. That should be enough to make me want to donate even just a little bit.

From what I have read he wasn't paid well in WCW or even now in TNA. I know he is Hogan like in Mexico but, I don't know what they pay or what he could make. After bills, travel, hotel, cars and things like that I doubt he took home much. Plus he also needed a hip replacement and the treatment to get healthy enough for that. The price for that without insurance is sky high as my grandmother found out.


Anyway, has there been any update? I read he had one of the surgeries he needed but, did it go well and how is his current health?

He had the hip surgery and it supposedly went well. He might be at home now but I'm not sure. Still waiting on the kidney transplant as far as I know.

Last week Konnan had hip replacement surgery in Mexico and is now back home. He is in alot of pain, but no complications have surfaced from the hip surgery.

Now Konnan prepares himself for his biggest battle, Kidney Transplant Surgery. As you heard in our audio interview with Konnan, doctors told him he would have gone into cardiac arrest in a matter of months if his kidney ailment wasn't discovered addressed.

Since his last appearance on TNA Impact, Konnan has lost over 40 pounds. His illness is literally eating away at his muscles.

To the credit of many caring fans, some have offered their Kidney for transplant. If you are O Negative which is Konnan's blood type, or even O Positive, you could be a donor. Unfortunately, the cost for Kidney Transplant surgery is in excess of $35,000. Konnan does not have any medical insurance.

Konnan is planning on having the surgery in Mexico because of the lower cost. In the United States, Kidney Transplant could cost $80,000 to $100,000.

With Konnan's blessing, Georgiann Makropoulos and myself started a drive worldwide to raise money to pay for Konnan's kidney transplant. As of this writing, a total of $3,000 has been raised. All of us are touched with the amount of support the wrestling community has shown towards helping Konnan.

Konnan is too weak to do any type of audio interview at this moment. But he sends along his thanks and is very grateful for the help. To quote Konnan, he said that the love and help he is receiving makes his 20 year wrestling career worth it that much more.

$3,000 raised in two weeks is excellent. But we have to raise so much more. Obtaining a donor for a kidney transplant is critical. But without raising the $$$, the surgery cannot be done. We are talking about something that needs to be done very soon. We ask everyone out there to please take the time and assist in any way you can NOW. Whether it's a financial donation, a donated item towards our Ebay auctions, or even just spreading the word.

Below are several ways you can help. As I've said before, even if every wrestling fan donated $1. Or even $5. His surgery would be paid for in a second.

Here is another update from the WON newsletter:

Konnan had his hip operation on 1/11. Just the fact he had it is very good news as they felt he was healthy enough to survive the surgery thanks to the dialysis he's been on. The doctors have told him that in four to six months he'll be moving better than he has in years. He'll be back home in San Diego on 1/17 and there has even been talk of him being back on the 1/29 tapings.

I have to agree. A lot of guys(Homicide, Aries, Joe) can make a couple grand probably on the indies.
