I know there was an argument/discussion on the Russo thread about not giving away PPV matches on TV, well fine, don't. But is it too much to ask to give me Jay Lethal vs Austin Starr in a 13 minute TV match with an actual FINISH? Instead you get it for 4 minutes, no finish, a video with Eric Young buying condoms, and then Borash standing outside Cornette's office like he does every week. So what if you don't get 4 matches and 10 angles done in one show? GOOD. Maybe then people can keep up with what's going on. It worked for WCW back in the day, and they had a one hour show at the time as well. It isn't hard to understand and pull off.Remember when there used to be a match where the X-Division champion would do guest commentary while "scoting" his opponent? That is how I really began to like Daniels (Before I looked at his ROH stuff).
Why can't Jerry Lynn have a match with Austin Starr while Chris Sabin makes fun of him on commentary? Why couldn't Senshi come watch the match, not invading because he "respects the honor of competition"? That is two angles right there.
After the match, (Let's say the Lynn wins) Sabin gets angry that Lynn is improving and storms off before the older wrestler notices him. Lynn follows as Senshi gets into the ring to get revenge on Starr, but security breaks them up. The camera following Lynn/Sabin could easily get sidetracked by more of Russo's crash television.
Either way, you give actual build to two of your PPV matches. Lynn proves he can still go. Senshi shows that he can wait for the right moment to strike. Sabin shows he is a cowardly heel. And (Hopefully) Starr shows himself to be a great athlete in the match.
Thirteen minutes: Two angles.
The average PPV has seven matches. Throw in an interview the next week, while giving another match to build towards the PPV and you have a working system.
This is possible! It is just that Russo is dead-set that his way is the best way. He needs a level-headed, non-yes man to keep his crazy ideas for sucking precious TV time away.
