It will be the initials VKM instead of RVD. And he will fight Billy Gunn for the rightgs to the name in a reverse wrestling match, where you try to get pinned.

Wait ive not paid attention to wrestling in a few weeks...RVD is headed to TNA?!? Nothing been said about TNA for sure (Likely to happen though), but there is a rumor about RVD giving his notice to the WWE which nothing been said if that was true or not. But RVD is not happy in the WWE and it is likely he not saying once his contract runs out later in the year. |

As much as I am enjoying the thread RVD wont lose his name. His situation is not the same as the Dudley boys and here is why.
RVD has the rights to the RVD name and Vince never could claim them. This is the reason why, RVD created the RVD Character/name while working in Florida independetns along time ago, and used it while wrestling in many independents around the country. He also used it when he wresteled in Japan(another likley place to returm to if this rumor is true).And of course he used it in ECW. Vince did not make him change his name upon entering the WWE, thus he let RVD use a creation of his own while wrestling in the WWE and can not lay claim to that creation. This is the same reason people like Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan ect. could use there name in various companies, there act/name was pre-existing before wrestling for a large company(be it WWE or WCW,when it was existing as a private company that is). The large company(the WWE in this case) can give you a new name for use when there only, but if the company lets you use your pre-existing name when working for them, once you leave that company they cannot lay claim to your name. This is why Ken Anderson became Ken Kennedy in the WWE, and Monty Brown is Marquis Von Corin in the WWE.
Some people ask why the Dudleys lost there name then. Because the Dudley brother name was created for them by Raven upon there entry in to ECW. Paul Heyman gave them legal rights to the name upon exiting ECW(Heyman does not agree with the selling your mane away concept). The Dudleys then went to the WWE(and this is where they made there mistake)without copy writing there name. If they would have The WWE could not have laid claim to that name. But since they entered the WWE wrestled under a name they did not create and only used in one teritory(ECW) and signed contracts to wrestle in the WWE under that name, and did not have a copywright to the name they left themselves unprotected. The WWE then bought the cprywright to the Dudley Boy Name and it becme WWE property.

My friends and i looked up the trademarks for RVD and Rob Van Dam... Let's just say WWE basically own's Rob's soul now. :-( As far as his new name? "Sky High" Robbie V or Rob Van Szat I would mark for Sky High, but it should be his tag team name. Too bad Jeff Hardy is in WWE now...theres always Raven though? |
