Every since WCW and ECW died simaltaneously and WWE became the only game in town, wrestling fans have been asking when the next boom period would come. When would wrestling rebound, as it did in the 80's and late 90's-early 00's? Well, I believe that we are now experiencing it. This is the indy boom. Right now, we've got TNA, ROH, and now WSX, and to a lesser extent New Japan and Dragon Door. Unlike the monday night wars, when the question was who would emerge as the sole wrestling super power, now the question is, who will be the next competition for that sole super power? Its a bit early to say if this indy boom will be a benefit to wrestling overall or not. Certainly, it creates a great atmosphere for the establishment of fresh, hot young talent, and it gives us a chance to see new, innovative ideas. Already, TNA with its X division and six sided ring, ROH with its stricter "rules," and now WSX with its use of explosives and other Japanese style effects, are giving us a taste of something new, unique, and different. A good question, however, is what role will WWE play in all this? The ideal would be for WWE to keep its nose out, and allow these new players to work it out amongst each other, and set the stage for even greater innovations to come. However, it is inevitable that WWE will eventually take an interest, and will either start using some of the new ideas themselves, or raiding the competitions locker rooms, or even trying to swallow them up whole. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I think this is the start of something good.

I think Dragon Gate is slightly bigger, out of the two.

In Mexico, CMLL was HUGE last year. Mistico was the highest drawing star in the WORLD last year. When he headlined Arena Mexico, he drew 16,000 people. When he took some time off to heal injuries.....4,500 people. THAT'S drawing power.
CMLL was easy the most succesful organization of 2006 by far.
And yes, I'm feeling wrestling is about to go into a boom period soon. The ecomony worldwide is going up, and no matter what, the economy has a direct effect on wrestlings success.

There is no boom. Its just an oversaturation of the product right now. WSX and TNA barely draw 1.0 ratings, and no one even knows who they are. No one knows what TNA is.
Also, every boom period has someone that the fans can get behind. There is no such figure right now. If there was, they're being booked into obscurity. Also, the product right now is very stale. When wrestling reinvents itself and presents something frsh, people will tune in. but, right now, its stuck in neutral.
No Boom period. Wishful thinking, but we're in kind of a down period. Better off than 2-3 years ago, but still in a depression.

Isn't a boom period basically when wrestling becomes "cool" I remember during the attitude era wrestling was soooo popular a christian book store had t-shirts made up that were copy cats of wrestling shirts.
One was a John 3:16 shirt much like Austin's and on the back it said "And that's the bottom line because God said so."
One a nWo shirt. It actually said nWc and underneath it said nothing without christ.
I think that for it to qualify as a "boom period" it would have to attract common fans. Not 8 year old Cena marks and 29 year old internet marks.

With Raws avg viewer rating at a 4,Smackdown high 2'S,ECW 1.5,Tna 1,And WSX a 1, where is this a boom?
The 3 top watched programs are owned by 1 company and if you look back to the monday night wars the ratings are way down.
Raw is Raw Nuff said.
Smackdown has turned into a spotfest and there rating went up after the rey-rey,king booker championship runs were over. (It's sad to think Batista = Ratings)they tried something diff with Rey Rey and Booker but fans Tuned out so they went back to a formula that works.
Ecw has improved the past month viewer wise and the internet fans keep calling for it to be shut down even if the "New ECW" had more viewers than the "Old ECW"(I dont recall Old ECW ranking over a 1 very often during the "Boom Period").
ROH has no Tv deal and really doesnt need one they draw fan intrest.
WSX is only a short season show so rating them long term is unknown at this point.
TNA will continue to scoop up discarded WWE guys till they find there nitch.
BTW is "Boom" the new word of the month? Does it replace "IWC" as the Feb word to use?

lol thats freakin hilarious good catch my friend...How one cannot tell the difference between a door and a gate is beyond me... Yes there was an organization called Dragondoor en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DragondoorIt became El Dorado now and it's pretty good junior-heavyweight style wrestling. New Japan and Dragon Gate have no effect on pro wrestling in America. I think the poster just threw that in there to sound like he knows a lot about pro wrestling so he chose some random japanese promotions eheh ROH is a niche show not a big federation. TNA is still struggling to find it's legs. THis isn't a knock on either of them. I just think that when another wrestling promotion has as much backing as WCW did (Turner ran Nitro and Saturday Night, he was the one who poured money into WCW, and promoted the hell out of them on his networks). IF another company can get that kind of support, create their big time players, and not come off as knock off/wannabe of WWE then good.

In Japan, with the formation of GPWA, it basically will help fuel a Indy glory period in Japan as it's basically a Japanese NWA with a good number of Indies plus ROH, NOAH, WLW, and WORLD-1

That's why Dragon Gate didn't want to do it, same with NJPW. Course NJPW is the most popular promotion in Japan, they don't really NEED to do it.
