I swear I've seen this thread before, followed by the expected "What Davey Richards hate?" replies.

I like him, a lot of people like him, and alot of people have their excuse of "he's trying to be _____" or "he stole _____ from ______". And then the people who actually just don't care for him.

I think he's quite good. Very good. The only people that I see really hating on him are upset puro fanatics.

I like the guy just fine, just don't find him to be the next best thing.
He's really good, but he's a prick.

He's really started to grow on me. I was re-watching some Briscoes matches this week, and when I got to Davey & Sydal vs. the Briscoes, I couldn't help but be struck by just how much style and flair Davey has. Really, his moveset is irrelevant; his selling point is his distinctive style.
I was also reminded just how fun it is to watch random, move-for-move chain-wrestling.
As for stealing puro moves...first off, he steals just as much from the British Bulldogs. Secondly, it's OK for KENTA to do Kawada kicks, but not Davey? It's A-OK for Yuji Nagata to do THREE FREAKING SHINING WIZARDS IN A ROW, as well as Exploders, but nobody in ROH is allowed to touch these moves? Thirdly, at this point everyone steals moves from classic NWA guys, uses finishers from WWE as transitional moves (see SHINGO using the Dominator as a random move at the beginning of a match) - so why are classic All Japan moves so sacred? Aside from puro fans holding up everything Japanese as a sacred cow, of course. I mean, seriously, a move is a freaking move, it doesn't matter where it came from! And don't get me started on the star-power of those wrestlers - it's not like the Stunner and the Uranage are held in such high regard. Fourthly, the only thing I take issue with is him using Misawa's old flip-over-the-top-rope bit. That strikes me as a bit like taking the Flair Flop.

He's from Othello(about 3 hours from my home town), so him being at least somewhat close to me is inspiration. I don't think I've seen more than one of his matches, though.

The last three times I've seen him live, he's been involved in some fantastic matches.
The guy's a great talent, and could really go places in the next couple of years.

I swear I've seen this thread before, followed by the expected "What Davey Richards hate?" replies. It seems to pop up about once a month. But Davey is awesome, says I.

He sucks, and finally people realize it.
I've seen him live twice and both times he had great wrestlers in the match and it was him who single handidly ruined the matches for me.

Mainly because he was VERY overhyped. It seemed like everyone who'd already seen him thought that he would pull an Austin Aries and topple Danielson at the end of the year.

He's a great talent, he just has the charisma of a stick. But experience can help with that in the long run.

He's a great talent, he just has the charisma of a stick. But experience can help with that in the long run. He's a bit like Benoit in terms of charisma - he's got outstanding charisma in the ring, but can't really cut a promo. Which is fine, IMO, because in-ring charisma is far more important. In fact, it's his main positive quality - a combination of style and in-ring character that adds a little something special to everything he does.

Benoit has loads more charisma then Davey Richards, and is a lot more intense in the ring. Plus the small promos he does cut, while they don't show much personality, show a lot of character and a lot of viciousness, that go great with his matches. Richards to me seems like just a generic wrestling. I joked before that I feel him, Roderick Strong and Matt Sydal aren't actually human, but we all made in a lab that creates pro wrestlers with great work rate.

I'd argue back that Benoit probably didn't have his current level of promo skill at Davey's age. I can't prove that, though. Still, I feel that you underrate Davey's in-ring intensity. Everything he does is full-bore, and looks brutal enough to make his somewhat unremarkable moveset something jarring, special, different. I suppose I'm coming off as a huge Davey mark, when that's not quite the case. I simply saw something special in him when I went through some recent matches, and decided to take up the argument. As for the joke about charisma-less wrestlers not being human... I actually think Roderick seems more human than damn near anyone else in ROH.

His moves are so f***ing bland, he's an ass in real life. He relies FAR too much on kicking and big time moves, along with this, go American should use fighting spirit. EVER. Unless it's like Vader.

I think with the experience, he'll get better. That's what someone like him needs anyway, a chance to shine and prove himself.
I also think that this lab is something that Vince McMahon and Gabe Sapolsky visit quite frequently. Vince however is just looking for generic hot women. I'm pretty sure that's where ECW's Rebecca was created.
