he's an ass in real life. Explain please. I don't have a problem believing it, but I've read interviews where he has sounded very cool and not at all full of himself, even down to saying over and over he doesn't want to go to either WWE or TNA. So what makes him an ass exactly?

Friend of mine who went to the Inoki dojo, several other reports said he's a real ass, heard he toned it down a little in PWG but I think that's because B-Boi and Super Dragon threatened to knock him down a peg.

Put me in the "Davey has good in-ring charisma" corner.
The guy carries himself very well in-ring, plus, just watching the six man with him, Delirious, and Shingo against Gen-Ex last weekend, he did a great job of playing off everyone else in the match, and was right in the middle of some funny spots, as well.
I'd argue the same for Strong and Sydal; people don't often realize just how much character they really are showing in the ring due to what our modern perception of charisma is; that is, in modern wrestling fandom, most feel that all charisma is derived from promos. Even those who don't believe that can still easily, and unintentionally, have their perceptions colored by it. It's unfortunate, but true; that's why we get a lot of people saying "Benoit has no charisma, just workrate", which is bollox.
Roderick, in particular, has come a REALLY long way in that regard since 2004/early 2005.

His moves are so waxing bland, he's an ass in real life. He relies FAR too much on kicking and big time moves, along with this, go American should use fighting spirit. EVER. Unless it's like Vader. Hey Hogan, Sting, Jerry Lawler, and now John Cena uses FIGHTING SPIRIT! I agree with the kicking every move in his arsenal is a damn kick, I don't get the "Benoit" or British Bulldog-ish comparisons beyond the German Suplex and the Dragon Suplex. dude flies as good as anybody, and he flips just as fun as anybody. It's just well yeah he's great when paired with somebody charismatic. So yeah his team with Strong is just so Blandtastic.. He's got a big head, is real cocky, and is one of those Small Town guys becomes big headed when things come up for him.. Really met the guy trying to get an interview at inoki dojo, and well he was a dick. Oh and btw he used to stay at the Inoki Dojo when in town for shows, but the dojo has since kicked him out for being such a prick.

I like Davey Richards. I don't care.

I don't hate Davey Richards, I just don't really give two hoots. He seems like a caffeine free Low Ki to me.
The only Richards I care about is Stevie.

I like what very little I've seen of Davey Richards. Admittedly, that's only about 2 or 3 full matches and a couple of music video tributes.

I saw the guy live last year at a FIP show against Shingo (pre-caps lock). The way you guys overhyped it before I went, I thought I was gonna be seeing the greatest thing ever. Then it was just sorta okay at most.

A lot of people overhyped him based on music videos and hearing he won the Super 8.
Again, the guy's great, and will likely only get better over the next year or two, but he's not all the way there yet, so to speak.

no American should use fighting spirit. EVER. Unless it's like Vader. Even though CM Punk and Bryan Danielson are WAY better at it than Marufuji and Shiozaki? Marufuji SUCKS at Fighting Spirit. Whenever he does it, it just looks really stupid. Shiozaki can't seem to tell the difference between Fighting Spirit and plain no-selling. But Punk's Fighting Spirit in the closing moments of Joe vs. Punk II was friggin' masterful. Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness using it here and there was even better. I see NO reason for this whole "what was invented in Japan must stay in Japan." It sure as hell doesn't apply to Japanese wrestlers who use American stuff.

I see NO reason for this whole "what was invented in Japan must stay in Japan." It sure as hell doesn't apply to Japanese wrestlers who use American stuff. But they never use American stuff, because it's lame, inferior and sucks. When a person's main beef with a wrestler is that 'he just rips off Japanese moves', I have to question what they would LIKE him or her to do instead. Scoop slams? Then they would complain that they only know 'five moves' ... ... wait, I just stumbled across what it means to be a 'smart mark', right? I mean, I can understand if a guy just plain sucks and uses Japanese moves for whatever reason, like Arik Cannon using the Burning Hammer like other men use DDTs, but if a guy is a good wrestler regardless ... why not use it?That didn't come out right, I'll re-phrase it. If a guy uses a move that has only been used by it's inventor five or six times and in big matches as a Regular Joe finisher, I can understand that. But I've seen people get on Greg Helm's case for using the Shining Wizard, saying he's not 'good enough to use that'. That's a fairly tame finishing manuver, really. Or C.M. Punk using the KENTA Combo. It's a couple of slaps and backfists with a kick. Big deal. KENTA uses it three times a match.

Roderick has come LIGHTYEARS since 04/early 05. Its like 2 different wrestlers. Yeah, you can't really play the Roderick Strong drinking game with his 2006 tag matches anymore. What you do is put on a Roderick Strong tag match from 04-05 and pull out shot glasses and a bottle of whatever you like. Then, whenever Strong is on the apron, take a shot whenever he can audibly be heard to say "C'mon, _______," as his partner is beat down/looking for a tag/ in a submission/rest hold. But he's growing on me.

I've decided to finally watch the Richards/KENTA match I've had saved to my computer since last year. I'll tell you this, it's pretty funny hearing the ROH crowd sing along to Van Halen.

Finished!
Okay friends, here's my thoughts.
- Yes, okay, he DOES kick a lot...but they're really cool kicks, and you've known me to be, I like cool stuff.
- I did at some point get a wee bit tired of the kicks and said "man, this is nice and all, but I wish he'd throw a suplex or something..." Three seconds later he hits Taz's leg-trap suplex, sends KENTA out of the ring, and hits a running tope. Bless that tiny man.
- He has a nice SSP. Not London nice, but still pretty nice.
- A pretty good match, not GREAT, but still pretty great, you with me?

At this current timing, I neither love, like, hate or dislike Davey. Thus far, to me, he just seems like some dude who's just...there. Being boring. And dull. But he tries. Not try at being boring, either. So, that has to count for something.

I've seen him live three times now - once w/ Super Dragon vs Arrogance, then vs. Matt Sydal, and the other week vs. Jody Fleish.
I've been impressed so far, and while his match with Fleish was fairly dull and overlong, he won me over with the cracking PWG tag, and a good match against Sydal which suffered from being a face vs face contest in a poor venue with a worn out crowd! (the event in question was delayed by almost two hours due to wrestlers being stuck in the traffic!). The DVD matches of his that I've seen have been consistently good. I like his intensity, particularly in PWG, where it stands out more than in ROH, where you have a roster with plenty of other intense guys. I for one don't have a problem with his style or moveset - when did it become an unwritten rule that American wrestlers weren't allowed to use moves that originated in Japan?
I see a very bright future for young Davey.
