I am in my late 20s, so my first WM memories were around III and IV... so that's where I am coming from...
Everything about this WM upcoming seems so forced and rushed... I mean, the old Hogan/Andre feud basically made itself.... it was "years in the making".... same goes with other past main events in the earlier WMs... and I know that was a once in a lifetime main event, but last night was proof of a rushed WM line up...
Where is the heat between Bautista and UT? Talk about pulling a match out the yin yang...

I agree...WrestleMania is supposed to be the biggest night of the year for professional wrestling. This year I'm just not feeling it. I bought 8 tickets back in November and planned a whole trip (21 hours) to Detroit just to go to WM, but I'm gonna sell them on EBay instead. It just doesn't seem worth the trouble anymore. I really don't want to see Batista end the UT's streak anyways.

Honestly I've been dissapointed with every WrestleMania's build since 20, but, thats what happens when you ask a 25 year old die-hard old school WWF fan to consider John Cena and Randy Orton this generations' Hogan and Savage. There just arent many "Wrestlemania" matches left that can be booked. The last match that had a truly epic feel, to me, was Hogan vs Rock. |

I think one reason that PPVs are meaningless is because there is at least 1 every other month, and matches on RAW and SD usually are the same ones shown on PPV....
I remember the old days... only a few PPVs per year... and the good matches got saved for the big events....
Today is just a big ol' cluster!

It's really hard nowadays to build this up considering you have a PPV every month, so the Champion will always be distracted by somebody else, like Cena with Umaga for instance.
Personally i think the build for Batista Taker has been OK. Cena HBK? Not so good.....yet.

It's also funny that half of the Batista/Taker build had to be done on the Internet by leaking it.

Personally i think the build for Batista Taker has been OK. Cena HBK? Not so good.....yet. I dont think the build has been good for Batista/UT.... having UT chokeslam Batista a month and a half before the PPV is hardly a build... no storyline.. no emotion.. no backstory... pointless pairing.. And I also agree... 3 world titles... they mean squat. |

There's about a 99.9% chance Cena is going over HBK, they wouldn't pair Cena with Taker because thankfully it looks like Taker is keeping his streak.

As A guy who has been watching since Wrestlemania 1 was on vhs and saw wrestlemania 2 on close circuit tv, it is not a great build but all I can hope is that taker keeps his streak and gets one more title reign from wrestlemania, its going to be the 10 year anniverery since he beat sid, if batista wins i will seriously stop watching, because all I care about now is seeing taker retire with the streak.

I wasnt excited for last years main event until I got to the arena and the crowd was really hot for HHH. So it could be the same. I really dont want HBK to win those.

agreed with everything said. nothing about this WM screams must buy for me. Though i like the idea of Cena/Michaels, there is no heat unless Michaels turns, and even then they have only a month and a half to make the people want to see Cena destroy him. Nothing about UT/Batista strikes me as enjoyable.

Ya know why I'm not happy with? 3 World Title matches thats why. Thats why they should have an Undisputed Championship again. i mean having Lashley as a World Champion is sad. Also than that would put importance on the second tier belt and would actually became a major belt on the three shows. For example main event wrestlers not gunning for the Undisputed World title on Raw will go after the Intercontinental Title. Smackdown main eventer would go after the US Title. And ECW would bring back the Television Title and the main eventers could fight over that. Oh and One month a raw superstar would have a shot at the title, than the next month a smackdown superstar would have a shot and the next month a ECW star would. It would make it better and the World Title would mean something. Same thing with the Tag Titles. |

First I wanna say that I agree that it's impossible to generate a long, drawn-out build up for the WM main event because of the fact that there's so many PPV's, and as much as that dissapoints me, I'm kind of used to it by now since it's been that way for so long. I feel like they're doing the best they can, especially this year, considering they don't have a lot of time to build them up. I don't understand why people are so unhappy with the lack of lengthy build up--if the Rumble just happened and the winner of the Rumble gets the title shot, then how could they start a build up any earlier? If they started the build up earlier than the Rumble, then it would make the Rumble match even more predictable than it already is and people (myself included) would complain about that.
My biggest disappointment is year after year the COMPLETE lack of mid-card and undercard Wrestlemania match build-ups.

Taker and Batista have taken turns "accidently" hitting each other and Batista got Taker DQ'd in his match with Kennedy that would have gotten Taker added to the Rumble World title match. They've had several stare downs recently. The build for this match started on tv several weeks ago, last night was just the official announcment for it. |

Mania used to be the culmination of storylines. Now, it's coming off as just another PPV and that is just so wrong. |

As someone who will be attending WM this year live for the first time, I must say that I'm not as pumped as I was back in the fall when I was hoping for matches of epic proportions; possibly Austin vs Hogan, WWE champ vs. World champ, etc. Since this WM was going to be at a large venue, I thought they were going to put on epic matches much like the epics of WM 17, 18 & 19 when they were held at football & baseball stadiums.
I'm sorry but HBK vs Cena, Undertaker vs Batista and Hogan vs Shane or Khali doesn't strike me as "epic" or legendary by any stretch of the imagination. Sure, it's WM, so the people will do their best, but it's missing the greatness of WM's of past years.
I think the ultimate question and the question that's important to Vince and the WWE is: now that the main events have been announced, will you purchase WM 23 for $49.99? There are probably many die-hard pro-wrestling fans that will just because its WM, but I think Vince and company try to pull out all the stops each year to get the "on-the-fence" wrestling fans to buy into it. I guess he's hoping that there will be many buys stemming from Trump's involvement, but I don't think the average fan buys WM for the celebrity involvement - I think they want to see those epic matches you only see once a year.

I think part of the problem this year is that none of the matches at all really have any buildup.
Last year, there was one match -- the women's title match -- of which the seeds were planted in October of the previous year when Mickie first debuted. That's one of the reasons I liked the whole angle so much; the whole Mickie vs Trish thing was several months in the making, and Wrestlemania was the payoff. They even had a nice "epilogue" in the month following WM when they each dressed up like each other until the rematch.
Then there was 2 years ago, with the Wrestlemania feud between Batista and HHH. That also was several months in the making. Even when Batista was still in evolution, it was becoming obvious that HHH was holding him back (in the storyline) and the crowd was clamoring to see Batista leave Evolution. Then for several weeks, HHH was "accidentally" costing Batista wins so he wouldn't get outshined. When they had the contract signing and Batista made it official that he would be facing HHH at WM21, that was pretty huge.
