Let's give some praise to Shotgun Saturday Night. It seems that the Fake Razor Ramon vs. Rocky Maivia match has been removed from YouTube, so now there are no videos at all of classic Shotgun Saturday Night on the internet. This makes me cry. Be warned that this topic is about the classic Shotgun, not the 2000-era "Shotgun" which was a jobber/recap weekend show. Remember the yellow ring ropes? Remember the smaller ring? Remember that it was broadcast from clubs and nightspots? Remember how it was meant to be "edgy"? Remember Marlena flashing The Sultan on the first broadcast? Remember how the UK never got it? Discuss moments, beg Double Double E for it back, anything. As long as we remember.

I honestly don't remember it that much except for Brian Pillman who was one of my favorite wrestlers, doing commentary and doing crazy shit during the broadcast and yeah I remember the Marlena thing that was amzing because you did not see something like that back than. I loved the small feel of it, it was cool and I thought a well put together show. Basically what I thought ECW would be like.

I watched it as early as early '98, but i don't remember them going to nightclub venues, souns interesting though. My biggest memory is just "Too Much" appearing on it all the time. I guess i missed the best episodes in 97 then.....
DAMN!

The night club venues stopped well before 2000. It stopped in 1997, IIRC, because I distinctly remember a killer Furnas-Lafon vs. Hardy Boyz match that was taped before Raw and aired on Shotgun (as were all Shotgun shows in late-97, I believe).
How long did the nightclub thing even last? I doubt it was too long. My only real memory of it, outside of Marlena, was Rocky Maivia facing Savio Vega while Vince McMahon kept calling him "Rocky Johnson". HHH then joined the broadcast booth and sarcastically said something like "boy, Rocky Johnson looked great out there", and Vince acknowledged his error.
This appreciation thread should include the taped before Raw version of SGSN. It had some killer matches.

I still remember this being on Sky one on Saturday Afternoons, i'm sure of it, it went Shotgun, edited Raw then Livewire, i think. I may have gotten the order wrong but i'm almost certain it was there. Anyone know?
My only clear memory i have of this programme is Too Cool coming down to the ring in their pre-hip hop Rikishi fool dance era in crash helmets, and at one point Brian Christopher told the crowd to shut up really loudly, banged on the steel steps with his hands, waited a few seconds then suddenly realised the pain he was in from doing it and stomped around going "yaaaarrrhrghrghrhrhrhrhrgh".

This appreciation thread should include the taped before Raw version of SGSN. It had some killer matches. True, but it was a completely different program to the club Shotgun. And I know that they stopped taping it in nightspots way before 2000, I just wasn't sure if it went on a hiatus first. And DrBackflipsHoffman, the version that was on Sky One was the taped before Raw jobber show. Sorry.

In Mick Foley's book, i remember on one edition on Shotgun in early '97, Terry Funk went on a rant and used a swear word, insulted Vince i think. Then he got sacked. Nice to see this on youtube.

Isn't Shotgun where they discovered a homeless Nikolai Volkoff?
Also, didn't it debut The Flying Nuns(Headbangers in...well nun attire)?
I miss that show.

OK, so I this isn't from the "oh so amazing" nightclub shows, but I do remember in 1997 and into 98 it definitely wasn't a jobber show, with battle royals that gave IC title shots (which the Rock used to win one) and progressions of major feuds. Don't hate on non-nightclub Shotgun!

I seem to remember that early on with Heat it was the B show and actually major things happened on Heat and ME stars like Austin and Taker were on it sometimes. Maybe I went insane but I remember that. Although it was no where as good as Shotgun which intensity was amazing, never should have been cancelled. In fact I would have kept it alive and have the three brands be Raw, Smackdown, and Shotgun.

Yeah, Heat was the B-Show until Smackdown debuted in 1999.
And also, yeah, the Headbangers made their debut on Shotgun.

Hell, does anyone have any clips of Shotgun?

I have the 2nd episode of Shotgun on my computer, I could try to upload it to Daily Motion or something.
It contains:
Fake Razor vs. Rocky Maivia Fake Diesel vs. Marc Mero Faarooq vs. Savio Vega Furnas & LaFon vs. Headbangers
And also: Fondle Me Elmo Pettingill finds homeless Nikolai Pettingill/Honkey Tonk Man Duet
So much action in one small hour
I also recall it having the WWF logo in the bottom left with a badge around it... pretty cool and different at the time.
