This does indeed suck for ROH, and its fans, but I feel Joe is doing whats best for him, and I can't be selfish and expect more than that. I know others will step up, just like when CM Punk left in the summer of 05.

Sweet so Joe will go full on TNA.
I really hope TNA gets serious about pushing Joe.

I admit I've never really watched ROH outside of a DVD or two, but it still made me sad to hear his going away speech. You could tell he really really really didn't want to go, or he's a better actor than half the wrestlers out there today.

I do agree that, on the one hand, it's nice that ROH will now have an open slot, so to speak, to bring in more talent, and push more youngsters into a higher spot.
The thing with Joe, though, is that, in ROH, at least, he's past the point of needing to be the guy who gives us the best matches of the night every show. He's the icon at this point. When you're there live, you just have fun being able to say "Alright, the Big Dog is here!", because you know just how much the guys given you since 2002.
Make no mistake: he'll be missed, sorely. ROH will go on, ROH will likely continue to improve all-around as a company and put on more great shows, but, without Joe, just like without Punk, it'll always feel like there's just something missing.

Joe is to ROH now what Hogan was to WWF in the 80's, and maybe even more. He will be gone, but not forgotten. But its the nature of the beast in wrestling, especially Indy wrestling. An Indy company gets a big main eventer, and others start to take notice. Some of them will be signed up. If you're a good company, you'll be able to replace them and move on.

they get to pick who they wrestle for their last match, don't they?

they get to pick who they wrestle for their last match, don't they? I would assume for someone like Joe, yes. For a lot of the company's history ROH WAS Samoa Joe. Just like Punk got to face Cabana, I bet Joe will get someone he wants, and if not, he can probably say no to someone he'd rather not.

Funny thing is, I watched his first match in ROH about a month and a half ago. I died laughing when he came out with blonde hair. It was weird, and odd to see him with that hair color. What was also weird was seeing Joe, and how young he looked back then. I'm just glad that I can say I got to see Joe live at 4 ROH shows in my life, (5 if I decide to go to Chicago on the 24th.) and each time he peformed his best. I think my favorite match though was when he fought Danielson in the cage on 12/08/06. I really thought that was a great match, and the way Danielson won that match made it even better. The big man will be missed, but I know ROH can survive this. Always gotta stay positive, and keep the faith.

I'd like to see a ROH/TNA feud in the future. You could have wrestlers like Joe and Homicide decide where their loyalties lie and we could see some dream matches, like Danielson vs. Angle. That'd be cool, but it would never happen. Plus, the ROH boards would go into overkill with TNA hate, as if it doesn't already.

ROH is like the old ECW in the effect that the promotion and the kind of wrestling it represents is more over than any individual or group of wrestlers could be.
They were both smart enough to do things different and carve out a niche for themselves, and although it's over reaching to say talent leaving doesn't matter..it still doesn't effect what draws fans to the company in the first place.
Besides, Joe is on a whole lot of dvd's that are still for sale, and they still WILL sale and continue to bring in money for ROH.
ROH will be fine as long as they stay true to their fanbase....

Why do that? Most TNA wrestlers are in ROH and TNA would be deadset on winning, I say feud them with PWG in East Coast/West Coast.

Another thought:
According to Joe, he said something about being "forced" to do this. I've been wondering what that meant, and I'm assuming it's a combination of expanded demands from his TNA contract (can't hold it against TNA if they're expanding), as well as Joe's nagging injuries that just haven't totally healed up, namely, his knee. I suppose not have to wrestle as intensely 30 times a year can only help him in that regard.
However, also note that Joe said he's "leaving the active roster"...I like to think that leaves the door open for something in the future, be it a one-shot, part-time (like AJ Styles had), or full time return.
It'd be great if one day, without warning, a heel champ is running his mouth in the ring, making obscene claims, when the lights just flash blue and the Godzilla riff hits. The crowd would go absolutely ape-s***.

Plus, the meaning behind the feud would make perfect sense: TNA is "stealing" ROH wrestlers and ROH is pissed. If it was done in the same vein as the WWF vs. ECW feud in 1996 then it could work wonders for ROH.

If it was done in the same vein as the WWF vs. ECW feud in 1996 then it could work wonders for ROH. But RoH doesn't WANT that exposure. It's not in Gabe's or Cary's mindset and gameplan to purposefully shove the business into a bigger then it naturally grows into. An angle like that could end up putting RoH into another ECW-comparitive situation: hurting for money to keep up with the growth. Plus ... think about this ... RoH is big out here in the northeast, and with IWC people. But not everyone who watches TNA fits into those categories. So, for your average TNA fan in Walla Walla, Washington who isn't an IWC freak ... why would he be interested in TNA feuding with this group of, in their eyes, nobodies? On another subject, you know who I'd like to see as Joe's last match? Low Ki. End it where it began. Jed Shaffer ~And we all know THAT'LL happen. Yeah.

Hopefully, this means bigger things in store for Joe in TNA. But I doubt it.
And I agree with what has been said before. It's not like he's retiring from wrestling. Just imagine the pop when the lights go out and Joe's standing in a ROH ring again.
