I don't think it was wrestling in it self that boosted ratings, as much as it was that they were doing something different, which in this case happened to be wrestling.
If that makes any sense.

What would WWE do if Smackdown started getting higher ratings than Raw? Would they raid talent to their "A show?" Would do what they did in 03-04 when SD was the much better show with better ratings, move SD stars to RAW...

on a serious note, it just goes to show the key to good rating on a wrestling show is WRESTLING QFT

People love Beat the Clock games. That's why Price is Right has been on the air for 100 years.

I'm still waiting for the people that didn't get the reason the bad ratings pre-network switch was because of preemption to come in here and go "Oh my god SmackDown has high ratings how can this be?"

Smackdown is the BEST wrestling show on TV.
I personally hope that Smackdown finally gets the Wrestlemania main event

I think the reason was the unpredictability factor of the programme this week (well if you hadn't read the spoilers obviously).
Plus the random matches made the show more exciting, it's nice to see some new matches for a change instead of Batista vs. Finlay or Booker every week.

I give credit to Teddy Long. What a great GM he has been. He's a credit to his race.
KAYFABE! I give credit to midcarders in reality.

I hope Ken Kennedy keeps his run and gets a shot at the World Title. I don't think he's quite ready for the position as Champion yet though, but I feel that getting a one on one match against the World Champion on a big pay per view like the Royal Rumble will put Ken Kennedy up to that next level.
The same could have been done for Bobby Lashley when he was originally gonna go one on one with King Booker, and it would have helped him, but everyone knows now that he wasn't ready to hold the ECW World Title. Just give Kennedy some time. I hope no one beats his time, and of course, if there's a bunch of 5 minutes matches, and there's only 4 left, maybe we can have a couple of other matches on the card next week.
I'm actually really anticipating Smackdown for next week.
