ESPECIALLY if they love double double E. Hell, my favorite "WTF heat" was the first appearance of Hassan. He comes out and says, right off, "I'm an American citizen, I was born here" and gets heat before he even says anything heelish. I'll bet money if Oleg came to the ring billed as "Jimmy Johanson from Elknipple, North Dakota" the accent alone would have him portrayed as a heel in the E. It never failed to blow my mind that people chanted 'USA' non-stop during a Hassan match. The whole idea was that he was FROM the US, you IDIOTS!! I think the best random USA chant was during a tag match featuring La Resistance against William Regal and Tajiri.

The only time USA chants should ever happen is during a Dugan match.

This is off topic, but this thraed made this pop in my head. Some time ago, someone mentioned jokingly that if Cabana ever got signed, the geniuses in creative would find out he's Jewish and stick him with a rabbi gimmick.
Thing is, I WANT this to happen now, along with signings of Christopher Daniels and James Mitchell and make them a stable.
I had to share that, sorry.

Well honestly, I think Colt Cabana could pull off almost any gimmick and make it work on some level.

The point is that MVP is supposed to be a heel because he kept trying to get out of matches and so forth, also it's because of his massive ego that only until recently he's been backing up in the ring. Or did we forget No Mercy when he wasted PPV time by wrestling Marty f'n Garner? Well the story with No Mercy was, Teddy said that it was in the contract and there was nothing he could do to change it, (which would still be his fault, maybe READ the contract before you sign it, ok Teddy?) and MVP claimed that Long forced a jobber opponent on him to make him look like a joke. MVP used stipulations in his contract a couple times to "duck" matches, I guess. But again, I guess this makes MVP a chicken, but it makes Teddy Long a moron for agreeing to this stuff in the first place. Teddy then started booking him against Kane every week, and threatened to fire MVP whenever he would complain about the way he was being singled out by Teddy. Long has quite a history of going after a certain guy he just hates for whatever reason, Carlito, JBL, Booker, Kennedy... In most cases he has provication to take some action, but goes FAR overboard in his punishments. All right, well you also can't give instantaneous grounds to his face turn either after getting out of a feud with a face. There may be one down the line but it doesn't seem like any sympathetic face reaction is being generated, probably because in the same night he was burned in a mostly controlled environment in that he wouldn't be badly injured, somebody WAS badly injured, somebody who was getting sympathetic reactions, which they didn't go with (which may have been for the best but now probably isn't now that Mercury will be made a jobber...blech) Basically my main question is this: If I don't cheer Terrell Owens, why should I cheer MVP? hell MVP's gimmick is what Terrell Owens does in real life.

Yeah it isn't so much that MVP is a sympathetic face, he's just an asshole who is being victimized by a much larger asshole. An asshole who is upset that signing MVP made it apparent that he was totally outsmarted by a guy who may not be all that he claimed to be.

Hey, wouldn't you be pissed if somebody and his unseen agent (Jerry Maguire?) were able to hotshot you into signing him for a crapload of money and then he starts not living up to expectations? This sorta thing happens all the time in all the other sports, and I'm sure it's happened once or twice in the wrestling world too (see my Mark Henry example)

I wouldn't have signed a guy who has no credentials to a massive contract, so no. Teddy is borderline retarded in handling contracts it seems. (This coupled with not paying attention to when Randy Orton or Super Crazy's contracts are about to expire).

I'm going to guess that the kayfabe credentials were nothing to sneeze at, otherwise you're really just saying that he signed somebody who had never been in a ring ever (kayfabe). That's what you just made it sound like, I doubt that was your intent though.

Stuff like this is why I find myself siding with heels more times than not. They're RIGHT.

This is exactly the same as when Chavo got booed for cutting that promo saying that Rey Mysterio only got where he did because of Eddie's death, and they Rey used all the Eddie tribute business to his own advantage. The idiot marks boo, regardless of the fact that Chavo was completely right.
I hate current WWE writing. Heels are only defined by saying and doing bad things to the pre-set faces, rather than actual heelish behavior.

In MVP's promo to me it was really weird because he was acting like a face and the fans that were booing him were made to look like rear canals. I think it was just sticking to his gimmick to a T. He's supposed to be one of those overpaid athlete types -- well, when they interview those guys in the locker room, they try to come out looking like the victim in everything. That's what MVP was doing.
