I remember watching last year's Royal Rumble live, and something about it just didn't sit right. I didn't think it was worth the money I paid to watch it, but I couldn't find a specific reason; something just seemed to be missing.
The next day, the forums and other web sites expressed similar sentiments. So I guess I'm trying to pinpoint what made the 2006 rumble so bad. Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

John Cena coming out with a neon sign that said 'I'm going over'.
That didn't happen, but it might as well have.

I just thought the entire PPV was bad and poorly booked. Putting Cena back over Edge and putting a halt to the people who were actually getting back behind him. Not to mention knocking Edge off track until he recovered back in July.
Boogeyman SQUASHED JBL, Henry and Angle was one of the worst main events in company history, Mickie vs Ashley was god awful, the Rumble match was mediocre.
Now I remember why that show sucked.

1) Poor quality matches
2) Undertaker did stupid parlor tricks and blew the ring up
That's enough reason to hate the show.

I thought it was better then 2005, but the whole gimmick with someone starting the Rumble and winning it is overdone. Also, I used to love it when two midcarders started, now you get main eventers or people on the cusp of main event status all the time.

Basically the undercard, and the Rumble match not being on last. I think they put the Rumble on in the middle because of the insane entrance that John Cena did, and Undertaker on the white horse and the ring shaking. The Rumble was a very big show when it came to production quality, with Cena's space ship and Taker on the white horse and such, but they took the focus away from what was important.
The Royal Rumble match itself was great, but it's the Royal Rumble. There's a guarentee that you're gonna have a cool match there. But the rest of the card lacked.

As said above, one of the main reasons has to be because the Rumble match didn't go on last. That just seemed...wrong to me.

The rumble itself was predictable but I still liked it. It was an entertaining show to me. The mere idea of Undertaker against Angle had me geeking out in the end, good show in my eyes, could have been better but that goes for a lot of wrestling shows.

I liked it...
I also loved the entrance and theme of the event.

For me:
- Rey winning it - The Stupidity of Cena's Entrance that screamed "I'm winning this match". - Angle/Henry - Ashley in a match

For me it was the Rumble not being last, Edge losing the WWE Title after a mere 3 weeks, and no good surprise entrants to the Rumble (sans Goldust).

There are times when the better man loses, but it is still the right thing to happen. However, Edge dropping the title back to John Cena so quickly was NOT the right thing to do at that point.
If you need further evidence, consider the fact that WWE booked the program between Edge and Cena to last through February, but then it wound up resuming in July and it lasted all the way through September (not to mention the two having matches on the past 2 episodes of RAW).
When two men click like John Cena and Edge do, it is best to let them run. If the fans knew at the time that Edge would have his days in the summer latter in the year, then I think the match would have been more well-received (although I agree the overdone entrance spoiled the element of surprise for the match itself).

Yes, but they had to get the title off of Edge so Triple H could main-event WrestleMania again.

It was dull. The Matches were dull, the Undertaker thing was dull and Mysterio winning the Rumble was dumb.

The rumble not being on last made it feel wierd. and all the eddie references got painful.
it didn't even feel like a ppv. possible because of the lighting/set.

Edge's burial and the Rumble match midcarding are why it predominantly sucked.
