I'll always remember RR 1996 for making me stop watching the WWF for nearly a year. Why? Shawn's post match celebration, where he started to drop the front of his pants in what I can only assume was an effort to fake showing his pubes to the audience. I always hated Michaels and never understood why a cruiserweight sized stripper in sparkles and chaps gyrating to music ever got over in the first place, but his post match ritual was the end of the line for me. I was at a friend's house watching this, and we both were disgusted and embarrassed when it happened. Thank god Curt Hennig was on commentary because he sounded just as disgusted as we were.

He got over as a face by being booked to get underdog heat and by implementing the style of light-heavyweight wrestling that hadn't been showcased in the WWF at that time. As far as his gimmick, I guess they figured that he was over enough with the crowd to the point where keeping his heelish attire wouldn't really hurt him.

Maybe, but he was still a male stripper in sparkles/chaps gyrating to cheesy music and pulling his pants down in his post match celebrations. How in the world did that get over to a male audience? Just boggles my mind some times. He was the reason I stopped watching the WWF in 1996, and I know I'm not alone because 1995 and 1996 were terrible years for the company (so hardly anyone else was buying Shawn as a top guy either). The best use of his character was probably late-97 as the obnoxious brat heel. At least he wasn't shoving his crotch at the camera and expecting us to cheer for it at that point. Shawn's character will always baffle me until the end of time.

They said atleast he won a USWA tournament to get his Rumble spot. Which is why I dont understand why they would have nobodies debut in the rumble, shouldnt they have to earn there spot? They had the SWAT team debut and get 2 rumble spots for their debut.

Never understood that. I'm guessing it was their way of admitting "We don't have enough old talent on the roster ( or talent that they trust to make the match look credible, I guess) to fill the match, so let's debut new people." The intention is that those people will mean something in the WWF/E. The SWAT Team, to my recollection, never appeared after that.

While we're on the subject, why are they listed as "Squat Team" on the DVD packaging?

if you remember this was the rumble where hunter was number one because he lost a match to duke the dumpster droese before the show. That was good stuff though as Hunter really proved himself in this match and I feltl ike he was going to get a push that was until the warrior came back and obliterated him at WM96. Also why in the world did bob holly last forever?

While we're on the subject, why are they listed as "Squat Team" on the DVD packaging? Y'know, that's what I always thought their names were. It really sounds like Vince said "Squat" and not "SWAT." Perhaps the DVD people thought that as well. Also why in the world did bob holly last forever? I believe the answer is "To make Austin look good by tossing out a guy who's been in the match for half an hour" (as Steve tossed Bob moments after entering the match). For whatever reason, Bob thusly got the honor of having a long run.
