Personally, I am actually more than a little tired of WWE's announcers at this time. Ross and Lawler are the best of the batch, and considering how annoying Lawler has gotten, that is saying something. Lets face it, no one has EVER liked Michael Cole. And Tazz and Joey Styles sound they are take fist-fulls of Valium before each show. JBL has emerged as an entertaining and unique announcer, and he reminds me a bit of Jesse Ventura and Bobby the Brain in their day. I have long believed WWE should put Lawler on backstage interview duty, and put Flair in his place at the announce table. And Jim Ross, as long as he has been doing the job, is going to be hard to replace, but I do believe his time may well be coming, if it hasn't been already.
So, rate the announcers that WWE currently boasts, and decide, who is the best, the cream of the crop. Who can stay, who can go. And who should never have been to begin with.

JBL is by far the best of the 6 men doing announcing right now.

JBL is the most entertaining.
Jim Ross is the most talented at getting a main-event feud or wrestler over.

JBL for the win.
Who knew that he was also an announcing god to boot?

as much as i like JBL and seen his improvement. JBL's wrestling history knowledge is amazing and i have marked out often for them, but J.R. has been impossible to replace. they tried joey styles and he's a definite #2 over michael cole, and can get almost everything over as a commentator. i think a JBL/JR announce team would be an interesting mix.

I agree. JBL is definitely a great color commentator, the best WWE has to offer and that has nothing to do with him being "fresh". But JR still is the best. He might slip up now and again, but as the expression goes, he's forgotten more than most announcers have known and there are few who can match his ability to sell or tell a story.

JBL? Really??You guys..... ...we gotta talk about raising our standards a bit, methinks. Whuh...? He's easily the best thing going today and was even better when they let him be a full-on Ventura-style heel who bagged on the babyfaces and stuck up for the heels. Very good talker who is (was) great at making Coleslaw look like the tool he is. Now that he seems to have to tone things down and put over every single guy in the ring, he can only call his partner Maggle and not much else. In spite of all that, he's still the best talker in the game right now. No question. If you missed this Friday, try to track down his "Vote me for referee" spot from Smackdown on a video site somewhere. It was comedy gold.

Even though he has to tow the company line these days and had to drastically change his broadcasting style, Joey Styles is my favorite commentator in WWE at the moment. However, if I had to pick a guy to call a Wrestlemania main event I'd pick Jim Ross.

My inner child hung himself with a He-Man backpack and a ceiling fan when I saw Adolf was winning this. JR, by leaps and bounds. He oversells sometimes and his catchphrases have worn out their welcome, but no one is even in his league as far as putting over wrestlers and moves.

No, he will not! I don't have anything against JBL. But let's face it. He's no Bobby Heenan. He's not even close Jesse Ventura, whom I feel he tries to emulate more often than not. Which isn't a bad thing. He'll get there. In time. If he gets a new broadcast partner. I suppose the reason I don't find JBL all that appealing is because they paired him up with quite possibly the worst commentator of all time. Nobody can succeed in an environment like that.

I really dislike JBL as a person...but at the same time realize he's the only good heel announcer WWE has, and the only announcer they have who really gets a reaction out of me (even if it's negative). That's why I voted for him.

I'm impressed that you can say that. A lot of times when people on the forum don't like a heel they say he "sucks in the ring, sucks on the mic, and gets zero crowd reaction" no matter who it is.

I was a little skeptiacal of JBL as an announcer at first, but once I watched a few times, I loved it. So JBL is my number one rank. Number two goes to JR, and Tazz and Styles tie for 3rd.
Micheal Cole should go back to backstage interviews and be made fun of week after week.
Sorry Todd but "Your Fired!!!"

There's a difference between a personal dislike of a WWE individual and a dislike of a WWE individual because they do their job badly. JBL can still come up with new material (i.e. his changed opinion on MVP, which he actually acknowledges on-air), always pays attention to the action of the match, and can always get a good heel reaction. In comparison, King does very little but drool over the Diva Search, and JR seems more and more out to lunch (his brainfarts are getting more noticeable). Respect must be given when its due, and JBL's announcing deserves respect. It's one of the best things Smackdown has going for it.

Definitely JBL. Cole and King are annoying for their own reasons. Tazz is mind numbingly bad and Styles who I used to like just sells "monsters" too well for my tastes.
JR: "Twist of Fate!" No, JR. Whisper In The Wind. JR: "Twisted Whisper!" JR...seriously... JR: "All We Are Is Dust In The Wind!" ...go to commercial...
JBL is charismatic and spontaneous as well, thinks fast on his feet if he needs to go off script. Definitely the best.
