This is kind of pointless, but it has always sort of puzzled me. What is the deal with Vince and anybody else for that matter saying "In this very ring". I have also heard it used as "In this very locker room" "This very car" or whatever. I first noticed it in the Attitude Era and wondered then where it came from or how it started. Any ideas?? Anyone.....Anyone?? Bueller.....Bueller? On a side note, someone please keep Big Fatty V either clothed or off my TV. That is all.

It's just one of those sayings that's always been around. It's a way of saying "This is going to happen not at the PPV, not at next week's taping, but TONIGHT!"

I always thought it was stupid. Of course it will happen "In This very ring"! What is there another ring set up somewhere else?

I think it's a away of saying it's happening in a WWF ring. not a WCW one, or an ECW one, or any other one. This one.

It's to clarify to those who think the match might happen in a high school gym or UAW hall's wrestling ring across town. Some people are very confused.

I think Vince started making fun of it last summer when fighting DX. Cause he would say something then in a real over the top obviously dramatic on purpose way, say "...in that very ring". Least I think it was on purpose...

It's probably just something that amuses Vince.

ive always pondered why they call it a squared circle... can anyone shed any light on this for me? Squared circle The term squared circle is often used by wrestling promotions and promoters to refer to the ring. It comes from the mathematical problem of squaring the circle, or simply that it is referred to as a "ring," (circle) but is square in shape. There is also belief that it is a reference to traditional Greco-Roman wrestling, which consists of a mat on a floor with a ring painted on it in which the action takes place. This format is still used by amateur wrestling leagues throughout the world. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squared_circle

It has a great carny feel to it, like if you said, "In this very ring, The Masked Avenger will take on all challengers."

In amateur wrestling, there is a mat. And on this mat is a big circle that's almost the diameter of the surface of the mat. In the middle of the circle is a little rectangle where wrestlers each put one foot on each side to either start the match, or start the period of the match. In a professional wrestling ring, there is no circle. It's just a square. To make you less confused by my rambling, I'll see if I can find a good shot of an amateur wrestling mat. EDIT: Beaten to the punch!

It's funny, they take that ring everywhere with them, so it doesn't really mean anything to say "in this very ring".

Made there shows just a little cheaper. But WCW pretty much always looked cheap. The production value always seemed lower, shows seemed darker, and the WCW Nitro set sucked REAL bad. It looked like something someone would build in some fake gym class Haunted House stuff...

I think "in this very ring" is just a variation of "right here, right now", to stress the fact the match is gonna happen during the current night, and it's not a promotional bit for another show/PPV.
