Somewhere during this same time period, Austin got Jarrett by setting him up with a stomach kick while Jarrett was wearing the IC belt, and Jarrett sold it. Awesome.
They teased Austin-Jarrett as a real feud for a few weeks in '99 but then never went through with it. Considering Austin's love life at that time, plus Jarrett's infamous "shoot" against Austin 3:16, it could have been great -- assuming they ever let Jarrett have the upper hand. It certainly would have bumped Jarrett up about five or six notches in main-event credibility.

And people complained about Triple H pedigreeing London & Kendrick... Austin > HHH, that's why. Plus, Austin was getting his ass handed to him on a weekly basis back then. Plus, the booking was different and the character was different. Austin was an opportunistic character that used whatever means he could to get the upper-hand. HHH just "dominates".

I remember this, particularly Tim White's terrible selling. Still have this on tape actually. This is when Heat was exciting.

Dlo did sell best Austin very nearlly fell out of the ring when he went for Jarrett
