They teased Austin-Jarrett as a real feud for a few weeks in '99 but then never went through with it. Considering Austin's love life at that time, plus Jarrett's infamous "shoot" against Austin 3:16, it could have been great -- assuming they ever let Jarrett have the upper hand. It certainly would have bumped Jarrett up about five or six notches in main-event credibility.

Austin > HHH, that's why. Plus, Austin was getting his ass handed to him on a weekly basis back then. Plus, the booking was different and the character was different.

Austin was an opportunistic character that used whatever means he could to get the upper-hand. HHH just "dominates".
