I went to a live show and I didn't see any opportunity to get one. I wanted to stay after the show thinking maybe a wrestler walking by would give me one. So is a live event a bad place to ask for autographs and is there special events where wrestlers just sign stuff? Maybe book/movie/magazine/etc signings are the only place to get a wrestler to sign?

Maybe. The last house show I was at, we knew one of the dudes running secruity, so we went to the back to talk to him. "The back" being where the Zamboni normally would be filled. As we were talking, all the wrestler's (Smackdown in uh, 04 or so) were leaving. They all looked so tired and sad and depressed, I didn't even bother them with a hello. Granted, they did have a 6 hour drive ahead of them to make a Smackdown taping the next night, so perhaps this is why.

Go to the parking lot after the show. Some wrestlers will come over and sign and some won't.

Ive never understood autographs anyway...I mean a picture with someone is self explanatory but really what the hell is the importance when you can look back and say hey "this dude signed this piece of paper"...?

The only autograph I've ever got at a show was in 2003 when Rey Mysterio signed my replica mask. You usually try and get pictures when you're waiting outside. At Raw in London in 2006, only Rob Van Dam came out.

I agree...I use to like autographs, but now I prefer pictures with or just candid pictures of wrestlers. Now pro athletes are another story though. Their autographs are actually worth something if they are good. Not that I would sell them...but its cool to know that its worth money.

By the way, in the Boston area a lot of people (including myself) know the restaurant that some of them go to after shows at the Boston Garden. Thats usually where I get pictures of wrestlers. They give autographs to, but I just get pictures...although I did get Kurt Angle to sign the line up card for Royal Rumble 2003 for me...which is especially cool because thats the Rumble where he had his classic with Benoi...umm, I mean Bob Holly.

Show up naked and say "I'm here as requested by a Mr Levesque."
They'll let you backstage immediately.

Autographs are laaaaame. The only time I like meeting a wrestler is when it's under a unique circumstance. Running into them and having them sign a piece of paper after a show with a group of others is something they ALWAYS get. You are forgettable to them. How else is that any more special than just seeing them in the show? I will say the ONLY kind of autograph I would want is a wrestler who wrote a book signing it. So I would suggest reading autobiographies and attending their signings

live events are the best place to get them. I don't do it but asking them to sign something at the arena compared to at a bar or when they are eating, they would much rather do it at the arena.
That said, I only have a couple and that's all I ever wanted. I have several Roddy Piper ones, I met him when he was doing his book tour so I got that signed and some pics with him. The same for Bobby Heenan. Signed book and a picture. What else could anyone possibly want than a pic with Heenan!?! Well besides nights alone with the divas and whatnot. lol

yeah, i've never understood autographs. i'd rather have a photo of me with them, but to answer the question, i suppose you could always check into the nearest hotel to the arena in the nights around the show, in the hope that they may pop round there.

Find the hotel since most of them are usually in the same one. If the next show isn't within driving distance they will fly out so go to the airport.
Either way wrestlers are some of the best signers on the planet.

Show up naked and say "I'm here as requested by a Mr Levesque." They'll let you backstage immediately. It'd probably work better if you're heavily muscled and say you're there at Mr. McMahon's request.

How do you get and autograph?
Just go up to Randy Orton and say "Hey, Randy, sorry to disturb you and your group, but I'd like you to sign this right now."
You're almost guaranteed to get a memory that will last a lifetime

If you mean that the Boston Garden is long gone, then youre forgetting that they renamed the Fleet Center the TD Banknorth Garden and people call it the "Boston Garden" or the "Garden" for short. Personally, I still call it the Fleet Center out of habit. I hope I dont sound like a jerk..I just dont get the joke.

It was also a 'them kids today' joke, like some kid wouldn't know that the TD Banknorth Garden used to be the Boston Gardens, but knew about Boston Public Gardens (where the Swan Boats are.) Actually, it was a crappy joke. On topic, I have a picture of me and one of my friends with Lita, a signed copy of her book, and a signed picture of me and either Brutus Beefcake or Greg Valentine. They were part of some indy fed show at my High School to raise money for the wrestling team.

What else could anyone possibly want than a pic with Heenan!?! Well besides nights alone with the divas and whatnot. lol I didn't have the $10 to meet and greet with "The Brain" at an IWA-Mid-South show, but the memory of my brother waiting in line just to shake his hand (I think he said, "I don't have any money, but I just wanted to shake your hand and thank you for all the good memories.") is worth more than any autograph. Probably because my brother walked to our dad's house (he lived two blocks away from the show) and shook his hand and said, "This is from Bobby the Brain." My dad (who was in remission from his first bout with cancer) thought it was so cool he got to meet him. He even asked if we could bring up the Heenan wrestling figure and have it signed, but we were on a time constraint. (On a side note, my brother borrowed my Heenan book and read dad parts of it while he was in the hospital when his cancer returned. The man laughed his ass off. He swore he would get better, get his eyes checked and the first thing he wanted to do was read Bobby's book. Unfortunately, he never made it to that point, as he passed away not too long afterwards.) So, autographs aren't everything. Just knowing that my brother and I got to see Heenan in person made my dad's day.

I've noticed that whenever I've met any wrestlers, they seem more apprehensive about autographs, as opposed to just getting a picture taken (probably because it takes no effort to just stand there). About 3 years ago, Tommy Dreamer came into my work with some family, and I felt like a dick for asking for his autograph, and ended up giving some of his nieces and nephews free carictures. He & Beulah own a summer house out here (she was raised here), and you occasionally sees her around town. Go for the picture. It's more personal anyway.
