The only time I ever saw him in action was, I think, Badd Blood 1997 when it was on WWE 24/7 last month. He was alright, nothing special. It made sense that he was thrown into a feud with Bret Hart since he was all anti-American at the time. The Patriot was probably tailor-made to feud with Bret.

I remember watching The Patriot back in 1992 in the GWF and I liked him very much as he was a techincal wrestler and a power house. The Patriot missle was a very good finisher back in 92.

He was special. If there was ever an answer to the question "Is there anyone who could have had the company being built around them, but got the carpet swept from under him at the last second?" It would be the patriot. This guy was OVER. Big time.
He was the last approved "white meat babyface" of WWE for quite some time, untill recently as a matter of fact. On top of all that, it was in the attitude era, when white meat faces were despised.
The Patriot was an aura guy. He had that pressence, he was a charactor, a personality. He was that steriotypical 1980's all American boy good guy, but some how, it worked. As a matter of fact, I say that the reason why it worked is because of Bret Hart, and the USA/Canada thing was starting at that time. He spoke about America, freedom, he posed for pictures, he kissed babies, he smiled, and he told you to be good, and he never gave up. This was the only time in wrestling that a guy like him had huge reactions at the same time that a guy like Stone Cold Steve Austin git huge reactions.
In the ring, he was more personality than workrate, but it worked for his charactor. Patriot didn't win because he was good, he won because he was brave. A key element to his charactor was that he didn't wear the mask because he didn't want you to see his face, as he was always maskless during interviews. He wore the mask to cover his face with USA. He did a full nelson slam called the "uncle slam" and a shoulderblock off the top rope called the "patriot missle". He'd get beat up, but he'd just take it and unleash a flurry of moves quickly and get the pin, and he would never give up.
Then he faced Bret Hart and gave up, and it was all over.

who the hell is Tom Brandy? I bet Googling would be much faster than waiting for one of us to say who he is. But he wrestled in the WWF in about 1998 under the name Salvatore Sincere...as well as his real name.

The sad thing is that the gimmick would've really worked at around the time that Muhammad Hassan first debuted. I know the matches wouldn't have been technical marvels, but a Patriot/Hassan fued would've been the stuff that could've been very entertaining to watch during that dark period in American history.

I absolutely LOVED everything that involved the Patriot during his WWF run... just about the last thing I recall with him was him waiting on the ramp for a match, and Rick Rude walking up behind him, tapping him on the shoulder, and then throwing coffee in his face and beating him to the back. In face... here it is... uk.youtube.com/watch? v=gLRFLeaD0DY (link broken for swearing in comments) Those were the days.

I absolutely despised everything about The Patriot character/gimmick as a dumb mark kid and even now as a dumb mark older kid. Whether it be GWP, or mostly WCW or WWF, the whole shtick of being an All-American goodie really bugged me back then, and probably still does if I ever really think about it.
I give this guy NO STARS and NO BUYS~!

He had Kurt Angle's music after Mark Henry had it the year before, but two years before they gave it to Kurt. And when the vignettes for Kurt's debut started playing, I somehow just KNEW they were going to give him The Patriot's theme, since it seemed anyone whose gimmick had to do with America (The Patriot, Mark Henry: US Olympic Powerlifter). But I seriously thought The Patriot was awesome. I remember him walking out on Raw with the top faces, and I was watching it with my brother and knew immediately who it was because a week earlier I had rented an old Halloween Havoc tape where him and Bagwell lost the tag titles to Pretty Wonderful (The Pauls: Orndorff and Roma). I thought he was pretty good in the ring. Although I do remember, as a kid, being shocked that a strong babyface submitted to a heel's finisher (Bret beat The Patriot with the sharpshooter at IYH: Ground Zero). I certainly liked him, and was disappointed when he inexplicably vanished. Rarely has someone been pushed that hard in so short a time, only to disappear that quickly. Yea he jobbed to Hart at Badd Blood(not the main event...Taker HBK was). And was scheduled to be part of "Team America" at Survivor Series... The Patriot quit the company which allowed a current forum favorite to join the team in his first offical wwe contest- Steve Blackman

The Patriot is currently out with a torn pectoral muscle, right John Cena? C'mon, that is gold right there folks, both are from New England and this could be a much better moneymaker than that guy ripping off Hulk Hogan with the "Mr. America" gimmick.

He didn't quit, he had a torn pectoral muscle (again, he had 3 tears over a couple of years time in Japan) and the WWF just let him go.
He did his job, give Bret a couple of months run between high-profile feuds. They wanted "Dr Death" Steve Williams to do the same thing with Austin in 1998, but his Brawl-For-All loss/injury threw that off, and the KOTR Billy Gunn was to do the same in 1999, but he just wasn't over enough.
I liked the Patriot. In small doses, he was fine.

Didn't know so many (by that I mean IWC) disliked The Patriot. I was a fan of him before he was in WCW and WWF. AHHHHH the memories of having tv access to more than 4 or 5 promotions. The good ol'days. Anyways, I liked him and he would have eventually had an outdated persona when wrestling changed. smurf that. this photo is great and proves that he could co-exist.

He came in during an ideal time in 1997. American WWF fans were in a furvor over The Hart Foundation and their pro-Canadian values. They needed someone to latch on to. American WWF fans needed a hero. They'd hold out until the end of the night. He had to be strong. And he had to be fast and fresh from the fight (Wilkes had to finish his All Japan commitments before coming to the WWF). A hero. He had to be sure. And it had to be soon. And he most certainly had to be larger than life. Larger than life. That's exactly what The Patriot was in a nutshell.

THE PATRIOT!
The first CAW I ever created (WWF War Zone for the PS1) was based off him.
And of course, I made him for SvR 06 and went UNDEFEATED in the 15+ matches online I played as him. I did give him the Ultimate Warrior finisher (punch, spin, clotheslines, splash), as well as Kurt Angle's ankle finisher lol

I thought Patriot was alright, I liked his team with Bagwell in WCW, though they got punked out by Harlem Heat.

What I didn't get is that Patriot was brought in ONLY to job to Bret Hart.
I thought they had some good matches together, and that could have been a great program to introduce him to the audience.
Then he sorta just disappeared.
He was really over, then he just disappeared. Was it drugs?

I think we can include the Patriot/Bret in "feuds where the heel won".
