The Boris Alexiev character was pure ECW Tazz like and it's sad that he had to change into the Santino character just to get a rise out of the Italian crowds during the Italian shows.
Don't get me wrong, he's really working well as the comedic Santino, but to imagine what a Russian submissions monster would've been like in the WWE saddens me.

I would merge the two gimmicks. His current attiude and persona are fine, but allow him to actually use his ring skills that he shows in the video and make him more of a legit fighter.

I heard his skills didn't exactly match the bad assness of the character. However, it would've been an interesting road to take.

Missed his OVW run. Did he really use the Conan music as his entrance/theme?

If anything, this video proves that Anthony Carelli is the undisputed king of the fake European accent.

If anything, this video proves that Anthony Carelli is the undisputed king of the fake European accent. Maybe my knowledge of history really, REALLY took an alcohol-fuelled beating last night, but I seem to recall Russia being in Asia, not Europe. ;D But yes, Carelli is the master of the broken English accent. Notice that he even garbles a word ("animal" becomes "aminal"). Still I'd love to see him bust out some of those moves at random, with a comment that he learned that in the famous wrestling school, "My Uncle Giuseppe's Dungeon".

Dusty was pushing for this gimmick do be done in ECW. Sort of like the new Tazz. Could've been cool. But this, and his Santino character shows how versatile of a performer he could be.

As good as his current gimmick is, his old gimmick suited his look much better.

Hell, they could even work it into the current angle. To take down Lawler or whoever, he goes and gets some training with a judo master. It could be gold.

His current gimmick will serve him better in the long run, though. I'm sticking to my gut feeling that turning him into a snarky heel is the best thing they could do. He has charisma. He can work a crowd really well (The Rock wasn't the greatest worker in the world). He just needs to get into a real feud, even though I laugh every time he says Jerry "Stupid" Lawler.
I think he is a main eventer in the making. Just like Vince Lombardi predicted my beloved Steelers would win with Chuck Noll as head coach three years before the Immaculate Reception. I predict that Santino will be in the Main Event soon. Mark my words.

Gotta disagree with the guys who think Santino should be suddenly changed into his old scary MMA fighter gimmick. The guy is not only booked as a comedy character, he's also been booked as a cream puff and laid down for everyone (including Lawler and Austin). It wouldn't make any sense to have him suddenly go on some kind of amazing win streak or even to look at all scary in the ring. Because he's been booked to look so weak, that would just bury anybody he would beat.
I think he's fine as a promo man and though it'd be nice to see him to more ringwork, I think the cowardly heel gimmick works great for him. He's with Maria and that gives him plenty of opportunities to get booed as a dishonorable coward (Maria gets injured and Santino abandons her, Santino pulls her in front of a Lashley spear, etc. etc.).
