It was no secret Col. Mustafa was the Sheik but I see no reason for that gimmick at all. General Adnan was Sheik Adnan El Casey in the AWA and he and the Iron Sheik joined forces in the AWA very briefly.
I found out Yokozuna was Samoan from a Samoan guy. I worked with one of his cousins at the time and that's how I found out all those Samoans wrestlers were related and based in the San Francisco bay area.

I still hatetaht move Kelly Kelly would do (and probably still does) where she appears to do a mid air leg scissor when really the opponent is controlling the entire move. That's the fakest move I've ever seen in 35 years of watching wrestling! I've seen plenty of light heavyweights do it. Yes but they usually do it after throwing a flying head scissors or leaping off the top rope looking like momentum is carrying them. Kelly Kelly would literally do it step by step in slow motion and it looks more like the opponent is the one in control so it looks hopelessly fake, then gain that's what you get with most WWE divas!

way back in 1982 in Mike Lebell's LA promotion,There was The America's tag team champions of "Exotic" Adrian Street & "Diamond" Timothy Flowers the III! Even though Street's real life wife Miss Linda was their valet, these 2 would come to the ring holding hands and always run & hug each other when in trouble during the match.
I'll never forget the promos they'd cut. Once "Timmy" (as street would call him) brought a boquet of flowers to Adrian and said "All for you my love". Street would do most of the talking & Timmy would just go a long and say stuff like "Yes my love",eventually they'd be holding hands durring their promos and always ended with Street giving him a quick little kiss on the lips! For 1982, that was very racy to see on TV!!
I really enjoyed Lenny Lane & Lodi in WCW who were really getting over then the higher ups in Turner land decided that it was offensive and killed the gimmick off. Lane was really ripping off Adrian Street as was Rico(who Street actually taught tricks of the trade to)
About Chuck & Billy, all I could do was think of my good friend Chuck Billy, lead singer of the Thrash Metal band Testament!

My earliest memory of him was around 1980. I'm not sure of what territory but he was managing Black Jack Mulligan in a feud against Dick Murdoch and then he managed John Tolos and this Japanese guy to the tag titles and at the post match celebration he took Tolos' belt from him and gave it to another Japanese guy to make a Japanese tag team.Tolos' partner was cool with it but Tolos attacked the general.
Akbar showed up at a brodcast all beat up after allegedly being attacked in a parking lot by a wrestler called "The Beast" and the promo as so beliveable.
My favorite era was in the UWF with Devastation INc and the wrestlers he had were all big bad asses especially wehn One Man Gang held teh UWF title. RIP General Akbar!

Not enough love for Hogan and HBK celebrating then *boom* superkick followed by HBK staring down at him as there's silence and the show ends. I was live in attendance at that one. The crowd was just stunned! You could feel it all over the arena!

For me one of the worst endings right up there with Vince's explosion was on (I think) Smack Down. Vince who was in the middle of a divorce angle with Linda gets a phone call that she was in a terrible accident and is in the hospital.
Vince appears upset ,goes to the bathroom sing leaning his head against the mirror lean back and than laughs with an evil look on his face as it fades to black!
LAME! LAME! LAME! and it was one of those things that shows there's no more kayfabe as that wouldn't happen in real life.In front of the cameras and fading to black like a TV show not a real sports show. I F'n hate that!!

Unfortunately it's the ONLY thing she's good at. Look how awesome Natalia was dominating her but one little axe kick after all the butt kicking she was doing finished her off?? Pulease!!! It's also really sad how far demoted Gail Kim has been brought putting all these no talents over and they all now have to take a back seat to the returning Melina who showed she hasn't improved on anything and does the same slow mechanical crap we're supposed to be impressed by!
Also did you notice how as usual the crowd was totally dead durring the match until Natalia came in and started WRESTLING? Alicia can sell and take bumps okay but her offense like most of the other divas is weak to none!

I hated everything about that feud. I was afraid Steele would get Elizabeth. I hated Jill St John's(or was it Susan St James?) biased commentary. That feud dragged on. It actually ended on Saturday Night's main event in a lumberjack match with Elizabeth as the prize as I recall. One of the Lumberjacks "Dangerous" Danny Davis cost George the match and that lead to a "Who cares?" feud between them and Savage on to bigger and better things!

Good News! ;D Stacey Cornette has announced on her Face Book that she just got off the phone with Bobby. The docs gave him some meds and he appears to be getting better. He's going to stay in the hospital under observation for the next few days and have some more tests run. They found some fluid around his heart and lungs but the medication they put him under seems to be doing the trick. Go Bobby!!

What I hate most is the death of kayfabe and unrealistic angles. Wrestling was always scripted in a way that would happen if it was real life and it was portrayed in such that it made it believable and hooked you in. That's how it always succeeded. Now they do crap where "Sneaky" stuff is being done in front of the cameras. "Private" conversations between wrestlers are held backstage in front of the cameras with out an interviewer there to document it.
It pains me today's fans accept unrealistic stuff like that and argue with me comparing it to stuff that happens on regular fictional TV shows and even in cartoons! Now that everyone knows wrestling or "Sports Entertainment" as they blasphemously call it is a "Work", WWE script writers (Formerly known as "Bookers") write everything like it's a TV show with actors not acknowledging the cameras and I hate the new disolving in to another scene like in a movie.
Also the World title has been changing hands WAY too frequently over the past decade plus. Titles especially the world title used to really mean something. The champ would reign for a couple years and the crowning of a new one was a HUGE event. Other titles like the tag belts etc would have reigns of almost a year before a change of hands. Now there's too many Ex-champs and the reigns are too short to the point where the belts don't mean as much.
We need to get back to WRESTLING. with angles portrayed in a realistic fashion to the point where the viewers start thinking it is real. That's always been the magic of what made pro wrestling so successful and thrive for so many years!

hey I'm an old timer too! 43 years old & been watching wrestling for 35 years! The first heel ref I ever saw was Haystack Calhoun who was brought in as a special guest ref to enforce a TV title match against this heel who was notorious for slapping refs around. I forget who the face defending the TV belt was against this heel who liked to beat up refs. But it looked like this heel(I think it might have been Nick Bockwinkle) was getting his come uppance as Calhoun was not taking any crap from him,the face was at an advantage & as soon as he got this heel guy in a figure 4,Calhoun did a belly flop on to the face guy and threw the heel guy on top of him and held him down for the pin and helped this guy win the belt and they walked off together all buddy buddy. then again that was a wrestler guest reffing & turning heel. after that for me it was Danny Davis.

It's pretty well documented Atlas & Johnson hated each other which is why they dropped the belts right after winning them.
I never knew about heat with Zenk & Martel but I remember the angle played on TV was, Zenk split the team cause he was afraid of the Islanders who they just started feuding with.

All I got to say I've NEVER heard of ANYONE surviving a brain aneurysm! I had a couple friends die from such. Maybe if detected early enough it can be prevented. Poison's Bret Michaels had bleeding of the brain recently and pulled through so let's hope so. I just picked up the Steamboat DVD yesterday! Hope he pulls through!
