My mom’s family is from New York, so we went there when we visited relatives. My parents said it reminded them of a Disney World attraction because when you walked in, the first thing you saw was the gift shop. I remember that on the wall behind the cash register was a leather jacket with the scratch logo on the back that lit up and sparkled, like the jackets Chris Jericho wore.
During our visits, I bought a Judgment Day 2000 event shirt, Rob Van Dam’s first shirt, and a WWF NY t-shirt and cap.
The food was your standard bar fare; it was a place you definitely visited more for the atmosphere. Unlike the Nitro Grill, the menu didn’t use any wrestler-inspired names for food choices.

Somewhere in the multiverse I'm sure I did.

I did. My parents took me during a day trip to the city when I was a teenager. IIRC the restaurant itself was pretty mediocre, but it had a pretty good arcade.

no, too young to venture out to manhattan back then. If I was older, I'm sure I would've been there more than once.

Never ate there but I went to the 1000th Raw. Right after the taping the fire alarms went off and we evacuated. Fitting lol.

Another one of Vince's ventures trying to show he wasn't just a "russling promoter" and of course it was another failure. On the other hand, Ted's Montana Grill has been around 22 years and seems to be thriving. Though it's probably a Ted Turner restaurant in "name" more than anything. But I'm happy for Ted.

Went there when I went to New york in 2000. I was 15 at the Time and WWF was pretty much my favourite thing at the time.
I was pretty much in heaven. But a few Shirts and CD's.
We even went to watch Smackdown there at the Restaurant.. Gangrel was the guest and I got his autograph.
Leaving WWE New York was the thing I missed most about leaving New York.
When I returned 4 years later it was all boarded up.. Sad times.

There was a big thing around the time to make a theme restaurant in/near times square. It made some kinda sense for the WWE to try it with how popular they were. But like almost all of them it failed due to how high the rent is.

It became a Hard Rock Cafe. cafe.hardrock.com/new-york/The funny thing is that the last time I visited, the marquee out front was advertising a WWE house show taking place that weekend. So wrestling lives on in spirit at least.

Does anyone if they kept the giftshop after they rebranded to The World? I'd heard they rebranded to get more broad appeal so i just wanted to know how far that went.

Again there were a lot of these big themed restaurants at and around time square at the time. They would all get some buzz but the same problem always happened in that the rent f***ing killed these places.

I went in February 2000 when we went on a school trip from UK to New York. I still have my receipts and a bag lol. I remember them re-airing Harvina winning the Womens title. They played entrance music throughout and had a tiny arcade down the stairs. I wish I could have stayed longer.

But like almost all of them it failed due to how high the rent is. I've heard the Times Square restaurant trend described as massive advertising ventures the (smart) owners knew would sink, but the coverage something like that got would ideally pay off in the long term. I have no idea if any of them succeeded in the last part, though. Seems mostly like a rich person flex to me.
