Same here...there was some bad stuff, but nothing worse than anything the WWE is putting out now that everyone complains about... I have to disagree. WWE has yet to book a Viagra on a Pole match. In WCW's defense.. They never had an angle where Ted Turner was blown up, then it's revealed he faked it, but he has an illegitimate son... and that son is a midget. Yes yes they came close. But the difference? When WCW was giving us a shit gimmick matches and storylines... there was still an hour of great cruiserweight wrestling and pretty good midcard wrestling before that BS took over.

I actually enjoyed WCW in 2000. MIA, 3-Count, New Blood vs. Millionaire's Club, Jarret's silver nWo..there were a lot of things I really enjoyed at that time. I even liked the triple cage matches and David Arquette/DDP swerve. Fun stuff. I'd love to watch it again. Same here...there was some bad stuff, but nothing worse than anything the WWE is putting out now that everyone complains about... Of course, current WWE doesn't have WWF 2000 to compete with..

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- WCW at it's worst (Russo's second run) was better than WWE.

Goldberg was turned heel because they had been promising something that would revolutionize wrestling. You see, the best gift Russo has is the ability to shill himself, Eric Bischoff is also a great shill for himself as well. So everyone was at the edge of their seat waiting for what it could possibly be.
I forget what it was they wanted to do, but something happened that ruined their plans. So instead they decided to turn Goldberg heel because in Russo's mind if no one expects it that's good. It doesn't matter if they're happy with what they didn't expect, it just matters that they got swerved.

Even if it had (not one living person was surprised by it) nobody would have been happy to see Joe wrestle the world champion in the main even of a PPV for the THIRD time and come up short.

RD's line about 'ordering a pizza and them delivering a newspaper' summed up Russo perfectly.

RD's line about 'ordering a pizza and them delivering a newspaper' summed up Russo perfectly. I always thought that, too, with the caveat that the newspaper would have to be both full of scalding hot applesauce, and the content would be just totally random words and pictures in EYE-SCORCHING TECHNICOLOUR!

I have to disagree. WWE has yet to book a Viagra on a Pole match. Oh yeah, because instead of a Shane Douglas vs. Billy Kidman match with a gimmick, I'd much rather watch a gimmick wrestling as the Cruiserweight champion... You're talking about when Oklahoma won the Cruisweight Title, right? I'll just let that one sit for a while, the irony will be apparent eventually.

You got that right. Even in 2000-01, I still preferred WCW over WWF. There were very few episodes of Nitro or Thunder that I missed in the whole history of both shows. Anyway, to answer the original question, because it was "something that not even Vince McMahon could do anything about!"

TNT's programming director really is a creative genious. I watched 4 straight episodes of Law and Order between 6 and 9 last night.

Let me repeat this, because you clearly missed it... It was a VIAGRA ON A POLE MATCHAnd? Yeah, it's a bonehead idea of a match...but it's nothing that would turn me off from watching the show (like, let's say, someone faking their own death) I'm sorry. But I just don't see how anything today is worse than that. It was match with two men battling each other to see who could reach a bottle of Viagra at the top of a pole first. That's the sort of match I'd be embarassed to be watching if a non-fan entered the room. Personally, I had no problem with the death angle or the bastard son angle. They kinda had their backs against the wall on how they had to end them, and I'm certainly not above laughing at the E for their misfortunes. (Moreso in how the bastard son angle ended than the other angle.)

It was just plain stupid to begin with. But, in my eyes, it was just far and away more stupid than Vince's "death."

Reminds me of the time they showed the movie "Galaxy Quest" TNT Promoted it and ended the commercial with their tagline"We Know Drama"

It was just plain stupid to begin with. But, in my eyes, it was just far and away more stupid than Vince's "death." I cannot see the difference. The only differences I can see is that WCW still had great talent getting pushed at the same time as that travesty, and that Vince has no competition running on the other channel so he's free to put "David Arquette 2007" (K-Fed, Trump/Rosie) on the air as much as he wants.

I can't speak for the death angle, but the whole bastard son thing was originally supposed to involve Kennedy (a great talent), which would've likely catapulted him into the main event. Unfortunately, he was named on the list of steroid abusers, so his plans had to be scrapped. Sure, the Hornswaggle payoff was stupid, and they probably could've done better, but their big plans were nixed in a day. You make it sound like the E does nothing but bad SNL skits. I'm not even a WWE fan, but even I know they feature plenty of good wrestling. Certainly every bit as much as WCW did when it was sliding into its grave.
