A 'smark,' ideally, thinks for his or her self.
A mark, on the other hand, uncritically submits his opinion and partisanship to the bookers and promoters running the show.
Example: One of the few good things to come out of the crappy InVasion angle was an incredible worked shoot that Paul Heyman delivered on Vince McMahon. Instead of simply coming out and giving a typical 'bad guy' shoot, Heyman spent several minutes issuing very legitimate criticisms against McMahon as a person, as a father, and (especially) as a businessman. EVERY criticism that Heyman delivered was warranted and based in fact, not opinion. Essentially, Heyman, the supposed heel, gave a good case as to why he is in fact the true face, and Vince is actually wrestling's greatest villain.
Predictably, the dumbass marks in attendance booed Heyman and cheered when Heyman got attacked after finishing his worked shoot. Instead of listening to what Heyman had to say and realizing that he had a very good case, they uncritically went along with how JR wanted them to behave, and supported the status quo.

Mark is someone who believes all that a promotion presents to them in terms of "good guy is better than bad guy" and knows nothing about the term mark
A smark is the exact opposite

A Mark today, has a different meaning than what it used to mean back in the day.
Today, a mark is someone who follows the pruduct of pro wrestling. Basically, a mark is a pro wrestling fan. Everyone who is a fan of pro wrestling is a mark. I'm a mark, you're a mark, and lance Storm and Ric Flair are marks.
A Smart mark, is the same exact thing as a mark. The term isn't meant to seperate them from marks, it's just an add-on to mark. It's like having paper, and then orange paper, it's still paper.
Smart means to have inside knowlege. It dosen't mean that you have ALOT of inside knowlege. One person could be "smarter" than the other. A Smart mark, eccentially, is someone who has inside knowlege on the wrestling business. A mark could be turned into a smark overnight. If you take 5 minutes to tell a mark what the wrestling terms are, that person is now a smart mark.
There's a problem with this though. Too many people use these "mark" and "smark" terms too assign an overall ideology system. Like a political party, meaning that if you're classified as a smark, you believe in this, this, this, thst, and the other, and vise-versa. This isn't the way it really is. Just because many smarks just so happen to have this idealigical system, dosen't mean that that's what a smark is. That's an entirely different issue, and needs it's own name, which most in the wrestling industry classify as internet fans.

A mark is someone who whines and complains and watches just for their own interests rather than being mature and having a broad view of what the mass target audience of the particular federation would like to see. That's what a smark is, but I can't stand this "mass target" crap. Unless we pump millions of dollars in market research we have no idea if 90% of the fans hate hosses and Cena as champ, like we think they do. Also, a smark will seem to complain no matter what. Say a PPV is coming up and we all make our guesses. If all (or most) of my picks are correct, we rag on the WWE for being too predictable, "anybody can book this stuff", writers are morons, etc...but if most of our picks are wrong, well then the PPV was badly booked, losers were buried, writers are morons, etc BTW, in the end we are all marks because at one time or another we have spent money on the product. ;D

Are you under the misconception that everybody who shares a different opinion than you pertaining to any aspect of wrestling is part of some secret society of like-minded people who share the exact same opinions and tastes, and exist solely to ruin your life? Do you incessantly b**** and moan about how this imaginary group does nothing but b**** and moan? Do you attempt to validate yourself by 'one-upping' said imaginary group of people with "straw man" arguments? Then you need a hobby. If you spend 5+ hours a week watching (free) programming just so you can go online and tell your friends how much the product sucks week after week...then you need a new hobby

I won't get political but marks are like Republicans and Smarks are like liberals.
Then there's the fans I classify as Uber-Smarks who are like Communists. These are the ones that are annoying as hell. Who will right 10 page essays on why John Cena shouldn't be champion, want every undercard guy pushed, want Vince Mcmahon in jail and are all 300 pounds, have a stupid bear, where shorts all the time and Star Trek shirts.

A mark is an individual who enjoys wrestling. It's a casual fan. They don't know all that much information about the buisness, and just watch it for what it is.
A smark is someone who enjoys wrestling a little more. They are really into learning as much about the buisness, and at times, think they know more then they actually do, because they've read stuff on the internet. I feel a smark is an informed mark.
Essentially, we're all smarks, because everyone here is just a dumb mark who knows very little. As much as I feel I know a lot about the ins and outs of wrestling, I know that I know nothing compared to somebody who's actually in the buisness. Smarks also make up a very small percentage of the audience, but are the most vocal, because they love wrestling so much.
Maybe I quote Raven too much (now I'm definitely a mark for him, lol) but because he felt that smart fans live in a bubble. Their favourites are generally not everybody else's favourites (with the exception, a guy like CM Punk for example is over big time with marks it seems), and generally, they don't understand the concept of drawing money.
I feel an anti-smark, which was brought up earlier as a term, is someone who isn't a fan of some feelings a smark may have, such as feelings towards marks. I've seen a few posts here where basically marks are just sheep or whatever, and their dumbasses. I feel that's a very arrogant opinion to have. I also feel that if someone is saying the same thing about smarks, that is also a very arrogant opinion to have. But then again, I guess I may have a bias towards that.
With a mark, they're just there to cheer and boo and have some fun. A smark likes to analyze and critique more, and complain more essentially. That has its positives and negatives. It shows they have passion, and they are generally the ones who will go to lots of shows, buy pay per views etc. Of course, the negative is they may be critiquing something and their opinions are usually wrong about why they are doing so. Take Kevin Nash for example. During his feud with the X-Division, people said he was burying them, despite the fact that he always beat them up when they were laying on their backs, and he was just there picking up the scraps. He couldn't have the blow off match with Chris Sabin because of injury, and everyone said he just didn't want to do the job. Nash didn't wrestle because he needed major surgery. So I guess he decided to take a risky surgery because he definitely didn't want to do the job. I don't think Nash has wrestled since, and I think he's actually retired.

I think you mean smark, but you do get an A for effort. Anyway, I have a really easy definition. Smark- Learns about background stuff because it's what all the cool kids are doing. Or your general casual fan. Either or works for me. Mark- Watches wrestling for fun and gets beat up by cool kids in real life.

A Smart is someone who can be analytical and unbiased about a storyline or wrestler, and not have over the top emotional reactions to everything. For instance with the Orton-Cena feud. These would be the typical reactions.
Mark: OMG, That Damn Orton. I Kan't believe whut he did to Cena's Daddy!!!111.
Smark: WTF! Cena won again!!1111 I'm never watching eva!!111
Smart: Well they probably should've put Orton over at this point. But being that Cena is their biggest draw, I can see why they kept the title on him.

A Smark is guy who thinks he's fly and is also known as a "smart"
Always complaining about he wants, but just sits on his broke --"What?"
So: No. I don't want your fantasy bookings. No. I don't want to give you mine. No. I don't care about workrate. CM Punk losing is not a crime!
No, I don't want no smark. No don't want any of your whine! ***
...I don't know where I was going with that...

That's easy. Mark is Undertaker's real name. Smark is just Undertaker's name with an S in front of it. *** A Smark is guy who thinks he's fly and is also known as a "smart" Always complaining about he wants, but just sits on his broke --"What?" That sounds about right:I think the problem is too often people let emotion cloud their judgements, and alot of times it seems to me that smarks hold certain opinions for no other reason than to say they are "different" from marks...For instance, your average guy who knows nothing probably loved Hulk Hogan back in the 80's because he was "cool",while your "informed" guy probably said he always hated him and go into the spiel about his backstage politicing, even though during the 80's (when there was still kayfabe) most people didnt know that jazz was happening, more likely than not he said it for no other reason as the often times nearly neurotic desire many smarks have to try and be "total opposite" of the mark.Still, at the end of the day, people went to see and cheered for Hogan, which to me,means he was a good Babyface, since he was getting exactly the reaction he wanted from the fans;the same can be said of Flair, except he could elicit the opposite reaction,(people went to the show to see him get beat up by the local "Hero"),which made him a good Heel.

My definition of a Mark is just a casual fan that watches wrestling for the fun of it and then doesn't think much of it when the show is off the air. They don't go out of their way to seek any information or knowledge about wrestling.
My definition of Smark/Smart Mark is they are a fan that watches wrestling, critiques wrestling, seeks knowledge about wrestling on the internet and other places and is more "knowledgable" than a casual fan/mark.
