I've been doing some thinking. I've been a part of the IWC for about ten years now, and I honestly think that we make up a bigger part of wrestling fandom than it seems sometimes. Obviously we're not the majority, but taking into account how promotions both big and small wink at us frequently (Team 3D, I'm looking at you), we have to have a considerably larger pull than this whole "5%" concept. I also really, really don't believe that there are as many fans with a vendetta against us as it might look on occasion. I think those who truly have a hatred for the IWC (even though they take the time to log on to inform us of it) will come out and say so- and that doesn't happen often. It's not the same thing as enjoying or disliking something opposite the general consensus. Of course, if you watch wrestling on a semi-regular basis, you're in the same boat with us. Just a bunch of random thoughts from me that I hope spreads some goodwill and helps to erase "party lines".

I think we're all marks and smarks at heart. It's just that some get more defensive about one or the other. Marks think smarks are ruining wrestling with the elitism, smarks think marks are ruining wrestling with their idiocy. The truth is, no one's ruining wrestling in one given state.
It's like most ideologies. really.

It's like most ideologies. really. I can understand that. I do agree with wrestlers when they say that deep down, we'll never stop being a mark as long as we support wrestling, watching it or paying for it, because as far as a carney was concerned, you took the bait. You can know all you want about how the hoop game is rigged. If you still keep playing it, you're still a mark.

seriously watching men in tights play fight, that's just as gay as carnivale and Sex in the City

Marks is an outdated term now imo. It is kids under 8 that still believe wrestling is real.
Why can't we all drop this mark and smark terminology and call ourselves fans? Internet fans can be called fanboys if it makes them happy. We will be in the same boat as comic book fans.

WE ARE in the same boat as comic book fans.
Which is better than being those anime otakus or trekkies.

I think we make up a lot more than 5% of the audience, but even if we all banded together, I doubt we could give a promotion like ROH the kind of numbers the WWE has.

The interesting thing about the IWC is that we grow every year REGARDLESS of the state of wrestling. Why? Because more people (including wrestling fans) are using the Internet. Increase in communication leads to an increase in the IWC.
