My weekly "I'm a stupid mark" thread centers around the WWF Championship match at King Of The Ring 1994. Then-Intercontinental Champion Diesel delivered a Jackknife to Then-WWF Champion Bret Hart. However before he could make the cover, Jim neidhart ran in and clotheslined Diesel, causing Bret to be DQ'd.
So the question is could Bret have kicked out of the Jackknife?

I don't think so. Even Taker was out for a good six minutes after receiving one. And Taker feels no pain.

The Anvil didn't seem to think he could. Of course, we all know that the only one who would be able to kick out of the powerbomb would be Hogan. ...and Austin. ...and The Schmuck (Rocky Maivia). ...and Cena.

First and foremost, any "Stupid mark" accusation is a lost cause, because we're all marks, and compared to wrestlers in the slightest sense, they'd be calling us "stupid marks". I remember this, as a matter of fact. I remember Bret saying that he 'didn't know" if he could kick out of it.

I say no; he could not have kicked out before the count of three.

I doubt it.
However, he did pin Diesel when he went for it a second time at Survivor Series that year.
What an incredibly underrated match. Probably one of Nash's best matches of his career.

Wow I just watched that match before I went to bed last nite on the Hitman DVD set!! That match alone proves Bret could haev a god match with anyone. Nash looked an awesome monster. Plus the table spot is great.

He might've been able to, but it wouldn't matter if he did; Vince McMahon would've run out and yelled "It was 3! Ring the belt! Ring the damn belt!"

I don't think so. Bret is NOT the type of wrestler to destroy such a powerful finisher. The Jackknife Powerbomb was Nash's big weapon and if you wanted someone to kick out of a finishing attempt of him he would use the big boot.
However, there ARE folks who WOULD kick out of it: Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan and Goldberg. Perhaps the Undertaker as well... I think he did once, but I'm not sure, but since he's the UNDERTAKER it's ok, he's meant to be not human (anymore).

I think some people are confusing the intent, so am I correct in assuming this is a "kayfabe" question?
Then the answer to that is no, he wouldn't have been able to.

The Hitman character was a technical wrestler who won due to his superior ring ability, ring savvy and endurance. He could easily be over-powered by a larger man. He wasn't a superhero like Hogan or Warrior - whose gimmicks were to kick out of finishers. Undertaker at WM12 was knocked down for the count after the first Jacknife, and also the second. Too bad Big Daddy V Cool had to show all of us how he had Taker's ass beat, but didn't pin him nearly five or six minutes later(kayfabe of course).

Here's a better question:
Could Owen really have kicked Bret's leg out of his leg?

I think he BARELY would have kicked out.....then Nash would have Powerbombed him again....finishing him.
See....this is nice because it makes both guys look strong.
