...Ok, maybe not a full hour.
Anyways, there's been talk lately about where the whole deal with Samoa Joe's "shoot" in TNA is going. Given Kevin Nash's behavior on the last Impact ("sitting on my ass and collecting a paycheck!"), and given how Joe started railing against the company during the bit with Christian, it indeed seems like things are moving in a certain direction.
Now I, like many here (including Jed, if I've successfully caught onto some of the consistent themes in his Rewriting the Book entries), enjoy big time faction feuds. Hell, I even enjoy it when entire companies are broken up into larger, overarching factions, ala the booking style in Dragon Gate, or the direction ROH went in this year.
So indulge me a few moments of fantasy booking. A few ideas about where this storyline might go:
-I'd be wary about making Joe the "leader" of a New Blood style faction. I know Joe was in Corino's faction in ROH back in 2002, but since Joe really came into his own in 2003, he hasn't really worked as a guy you'd portray as a team player.
Honestly, if I'm TNA, I'd portray Joe as a loner in all of this. Raging against the "unwanted" veterans, but not embracing other young guys, who maybe don't take as serious a stance on the issue as he does. I just think there's more hay to be made if you keep Joe as a single entity.
That said, if a faction war breaks out, they seem to be building him up as a team leader.
-It also wouldn't make much sense to group every veteran and every young guy into single groups, seeing as how you've still got faces and heels. You could have older vets who are convinced they're doing the right thing and "trying to help" (i.e. Booker T and Sting), and, of course, the evil ones who just say "we run this place" (guys like Angle).
-As somebody said, you'd also need to book certain young guys as "betrayers", guys like Roode or Devine who willingly join up with the heel vets.
Just the same, how about older guys who defect to the younger teams? If Jerry Lynn were still around, he'd work there.
-Also, no opposing teams working together unless it's clear that there's some mutual benefit for each side. I remember HATING how, in 1998 in WCW, you had WCW and the two nWo's, and yet the Wolfpac seemed to just be an extension of WCW, only focusing on beating Hogan and pals. If you're going to make separate factions, KEEP THEM AGAINST ONE ANOTHER.
So, in short, I made this as a speculation/fantasy booking thread about what appears to be an oncoming angle in TNA. Anyone with any thoughts/ideas about what they could do, or who you'd like to see in what role, and such silly things?
