We all know that whenever the goal is to make a heel win without looking good or there's a need for a weak ending to a match for some other reason, the three-count comes on a roll-up. The roll-up is "cheap," "flukey," etc.
My question is simply: why?
Why should getting a pinfall with a roll-up reflect badly on someone? If it's such a "cheap," basic move, shouldn't it reflect badly on someone who gets pinned with it for falling victim to such a weak maneuver?

Roll-Ups are the "sucker puncher's-luck" of pro-wrestling. If you're lucky you win with it. If you're not, you don't win. It's a move based more on luck (of catching the opponent unprepared) than on skill, thus one sees it as being "cheaper" than a normal win via finisher or submission or whatever.

a win is a win pass me the brass knucks when the ref ain't looking As long as they aren't the Guinness Book Of World Record Holder for largest Brass Knux ever that Eric Bischoff used on Ric Flair at Starrcade 98.

I simply love a well placed roll up out of nowhere for the victory...Brian Danielson perfected it so well we were calling him "Mr. Small Package" in Chicago..

When it's the heel performing the roll-up, that's normally the case. Thus, the cheap victory.

I simply love a well placed roll up out of nowhere for the victory...Brian Danielson perfected it so well we were calling him "Mr. Small Package" in Chicago.. Reminds me of "Man Up" when the announcer talked about how "Danielson has a very effective small package!" and just went on for about 2 or 3 sentences about Danielson's "small package." My uncle cracked up for a few minutes...

Sportz Entertainment has given roll ups a very bad name. When I think of all the garbage finishers over the past decade involving roll ups, my guts churn with rage.
During Samoa Joe's ROH Title reign, they booked roll ups as being his only real weakness, which was shockingly effective and genius at the same time.

How about some other out-of-nowhere pinning move? Proponents of the backslide, unite!

How about some other out-of-nowhere pinning move? Proponents of the backslide, unite! I'm with you. The backslide is superior to the roll up and is never given the credit it deserves. Why roll behind a guy and pull him down by the legs when you could get behind him and roll him over your back? It's madness I tell you.
