Wasn't it rumored at the time that Hogan actually told Wight that he should jump to the WWF because they'd make him a bigger star there? I remember WWF making a big deal about signing him, even going so far as to announce the signing on WWF.com during a time when they didn't do stuff like that. I'm glad WCW threatened to sue if they named him Big Nasty, to mock Kevin Nash. It would of been a stupid name. I don't doubt Hogan told him to go. They're real close, so I wouldn't see him leaving his buddies and a cushy job for no reason.

Naw I dont think so. Really the turning point came in like 98, when WWF started getting alot of money. All WWF had to do was survive up until 98 and then it was over for WCW as the #1 promotion. They just had to wait for WCW to die itself...

I would hardly consider counting Edge in that same regard. Compare Edge's minimal involvement in WCW to the rest: Flair- Multi-time world champ and legitimate legend Steiners- tag team legends and proven world-wide main event draws Lugar- former world champ Nash and Hall- failed draws that WCW had given considerable air time Austin- former US, TV, and Tag champ Foley- No titles, but no fewer than 3 main event feuds under his belt UT- remembered for tag team, but last role in WCW was to feud with Sting HHH- given plenty of airtime and seemed destined to have success in tag ranks (he left because he wanted to do singles instead) Edge had one match on one of their c-level shows. It is not the same. Of course, half of those aren't actually WCW home-grown talents. Foley, Austin were both in ECW first, the others in NWA or some shit. I dunno. Basically, most of those if not all of them weren't home-grown WCW, whereas Big Show was.

Foley was in WCW from 90-onwards and Austin made his WCW debut in 1991 and shortly thereafter won the TV title from Bobby Eaton.

Oh Jesus, you're entirely right, I'm so dumb.
But weren't both of them in other companies before that as well? I mean Foley was in what, AWA? USWA? I dunno. But he wasn't WCW homegrown. As for Austin I don't know.

As for Austin I don't know. Perhaps, but they were more known in WCW then the USWA which most people didn't watch unless you were in the South.

But Show's wrestling debut was WCW, right? If you're just talking about where people were first well known then half of the guys in WWE or in ECW that had been in dozens of companies before count as home-grown.
I mean I bet there's a ton of people who've never heard of TNA, would that make Joe WWE homegrown when he eventually joins WWE?

You're right but guys being in the USWA which as far as I know was regional isn't really saying much. WCW was a national platform for guys to wrestle on and in the case of Foley and Austin they were homegrown in terms of national exposure. I mean if you've followed their careers from day one from the indy scene then I guess you could say they aren't. And to those fans I guess it would be as to some TNA is a indy fed with TV.

I believe Foley was tag champs with Kevin Sullivan when he joined ECW, remember he spit on the title?

What does home grown talent mean anyway? Pretty much everyone in WWF had done indies before going there. Does WWF have no home grown talent than other than? If you are that strict about what is "home grown" than only power plant graduates would be considered that way for WCW.
