Not a smoker anymore, but I hate these bans. Buncha smurfing wussies. How about if I become rul..... President, and make it banned with punishment by stabberings? Does that make it less wussy?

I'm all for stabberings. Just not for smokers. They're not hurting anyone, except themselves. Prove me wrong. I dare ya.

If there is anything I hate more than smokers, it's avid over the top non-smokers. Get smurfing over yourself. I think that South Park episode about Tolerance, which featured that smoker scene, is dead on. The man, whom I essentially consider my father, is a heavy smoker. That doesn't stop me from loving him. Is Rob Riner really an anti smoking advocate? If so I find it highly ironic after watching Stand By Me yesterday. Just in case you need a refresher Rob has four 12 year old boys smoking all through the movie. Maybe he feels that if something really adds to quality of a film, then it should be in movie despite his personal believes against it.

Smoking/non-smoking death statistics are largely inflated. Anytime a smoker dies, it goes into the smoking death column, regardless of how he dies. If I die tomorrow by getting struck by a bus, I go into the smoking death column. When my grandfather passes away, he'll go into the smoking death column because he smoked 40 years ago and my grandmother smokes now.
Don't take those numbers to mean anything, they're fake. Don't believe me? Ask your doctor.

I'm all for the smoking ban, completely for it. If you can't go outside for five minutes for your little five minute high, then you have a problem. Smoke all you want, just don't inflict it upon me. I don't want to smell it. I don't want to eat somewhere and swallow the smoke as well. I should be able to go where I want without having to suffer the awful habits of others. Waste your money all you want and kill your lungs too, but don't make me suffer with you.

OMG, their such pricks for banning something that's been medically proven to cause cancer as well as other significant health problems!

OMG, their such pricks for banning something that's been medically proven to cause cancer as well as other significant health problems! Then lets ban the Big Mac, cell phones, and alcohol! Do you want to live in a Demolition Man world? Even though we'd get the three seashells, there is a price to pay.

I don't think it's the government's job to protect me from the dangers of second hand smoke. EXACTLY. A-FREAKING-MEN. I can't say any more than that, or it'll get political.

Big Mac's, while not good for you, do actually provide a service. They keep your body going. Rather it's good or bad, it is food, and your body NEEDS food. Also, Big Mac's are not literally poison like cigarettes are. Also, when YOU eat a Big Mac, it's not making people around you eat second hand Big Macs.

Corporations aren't allowed to have smokestacks belching smoke over residential areas, or be pouring toxic waste into rivers (at least not according to the law). How is this any different? Personally I don't have a problem with a designated smoking area per-se, but at the same time it seems really silly that smokers complain that we should accommodate them for the choices they made. It's called living with consequences.

The smoking ban here has absolutely crippled all of the old "hangouts" such as Denny's, Steak and Shake, and, to some extent, the bars, too. It's kind of a shame, too, but, meh. I guess it's easier to pass a law than to just...I don't know...leave the area if someone is smoking. You've never had to work in a bar or restaurant, and risk getting cancer from all the second-hand smoke.

Country music should be banned in bars and restaurants. I don't care for it. What? I just shouldn't go to establishments that do play it? Naw, I think there should be a law passed banning it instead. They once put me in the non-country section of a Denny's and I could still hear the music. Why do people think they have a right to pollute my ears with such sounds? Because country music can lead to shortening the lives of the people around you just because you want to blare it. Yeah. Same thing! The shortening of lives? I find that to be the funniest thing about all this. If I had a room full of lava would you ban me from having a room of lava because you want to go into the room without dying? Just don't go into the room! It's about personal freedom. If you don't like breathing smoke then don't breath smoke. No one is holding a gun up to your head and forcing you to enter an establishment in which smoking is allowed. This is a total buzz kill attitude. "I don't like it so no one can do it!" People are doing things that are harmful to their health in bars and restaurants. Rather than go into a bar or restaurant in which people are not doing these things some people insists in going in anyway and then complain about it. I think this says something about people's personality.

What if the parents don't care, but the kids hate it (and shouldn't be exposed to it), and the parents make the kids go to a resturant? What if it's a place you LOVE the food, but it's the only place you can get that food (like say Greek or something) in town? Because country music can lead to shortening the lives of the people around you just because you want to blare it. Yeah. Same thing! The shortening of lives? Just like you are banned from having Tigers and crap in your house unless you have a liceanse. Also, everything in your second statement can be used towards either logic. On the flip side I could say that any smoker that wants to smoke can just not go in a place that has had smoking banned. It's a circular arguement that will get nowhere.

As far as the kid thing goes if the parent smokes at home then bringing the kid to the restaurants isn't going to increase their second hand smoke intake. They are already breathing it in at home. As for you liking the food. Too bad. Restaurants are not necessarily just a place to eat. Some also exists as a place to smoke while eating. If that is what the owner as designated his place of business to be then those people who just want the food and refuse to breath in the smoke are SOL.
