I don't know if anyone has made a thread about this game or not, I searched for one and couldn't find one. I was just wondering if anyone else has played this? I bought it expecting a good game, but man was I impressed. I just beat it tonight and I have to say that in my opinion it is one of the best Action/RPGs ever! First, I love the story. Everything was fleshed out in detail. The developers made backstories dealing with politics, sex lives, cultures, economy, history, and any other subject you can think of for each and every species! I mean all of them. It's like Star Wars and Star Trek in that there is more to the Universe the game is based in then what you see on your screen. I also love how the game tied up the story but at the same token left it open for the sequel (they are making three of them). Speaking of being fleshed out, even the planets and solar systems are. Every solar system you visit has at least one landable planet (though not all are fit to be outside of your Rover or can sustain life) and all the planets have intricate details on the type of planet, stats of the planet (size, orbit, etc) and other details. Whoever worked on that spent a lot of time on it. One aspect of the gameplay that I love is the desicion making. This is one of the first times a game has claimed that your choices will effect the game and actualy had that promise come true! Obviously, the base story will happen no matter what. You have to go to certain planets, and do certain things. However, the way these things go down, what's happening around you, the order everything happens... it's all up to you! *More on this at the end, so I can put a big space to help people avoid spoilers. The music is awesome as well. One of the best soundtracks I've heard in a long time. There are some serious Blade Runner and Dune influences here as far as that goes. So if you like those soundtracks, which I love, you have to hear it. One cool thing for the future is that they are making the next two games be effected by what happens in this game. So if someone dies in this game in your game, they won't be around for you in part 2 and 3. If they don't die for me though, they'll be there still. How they are going to work this, I don't know yet. Also, I can't wait for the downloadable content in between each release. What can I say? I'm a Sci-Fi geek? So are there any other Mass Effect lovers out there, or am I making a thread for no reason (I fully expect the later)? *POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW!**Continued from other paragraph: For instance, my brother's crew ended up having two dead memembers and no Council left at the end of the game. He had to reform the Council because they all died. In my game only one crew member died in the story thanks to my actions, and I was able to save the Council so instead of reforming it, we humans just joined it instead. This all means that when part two comes out he may not even have a Council and I will when we play. That's just cool to me.

I've heard great things. I loved KOTOR, so I'd probably like it, but I don't have a 360 yet.

I really wanna play this game...but I don't have a 360...therefore I cannot Whenever you get one, get this game. Also, Bradley, there is a bad/good meter like in KOTOR, but it isn't quite as black and white anymore. Just doing bad actions doesn't erase other good actions and vice versa. Also doing "Bad Actions" doesn't always make you a bad guy. For instance, if you got a mission where somone wants you to smuggle something you can break the law and do it but you can be a jerk to the guy and shake him down for more money OR be nice to him and be like "Happy To Help." On the same token you can turn the guy into the authorities while being calm about it, or turn him in while talking junk and threatening him to life in prison and all that.

I'll love to check it out.

The choices don't affect the game as much as I'd like to. I bet they don't reference your ending choices at all in ME 3, kind of like if you played a male or female in KOTOR 1 being referre in KOTOR 2

great game, but the side missions & planets got repetitive.
but they created a new action/RPG system for it so i'll let them off, besides that's what sequels are for.

It is pretty good, but I'm sorry, the music is ASS in the game and got annoying FAST. How the soundtrack won multiple Best Soundtrack awards over Uncharted: Drake's Fortune's soundtrack(which actually IS good and fits the tone and atmosphere of the game, unlike Mass Effect's, which feels like it is just...there), I'll never know...oh wait, I do...Microsoft has deep pockets, and are willing to throw money away to win petty awards that don't matter(the Game Developer Conference Awards are the only ones that matter, and those can't be bought, sorry Microsoft).

I thought the music was awesome with all its Brad Fiedel/Vangelis/insert 80's sci-fi music composer influences. As did a lot of other people, apparently, but since it's a Microsoft game the ONLY POSSIBLE OPTION is that M$ has paid everyone off to win all the soundtrack awards. Besides, "M4 Part II" = best video game song in, like, ever.

Besides, "M4 Part II" = best video game song in, like, ever. Microsoft has been known to give heavy money for other games of theirs to win awards before. Case in point, Halo 2 won Best FPS and Game of the Year for 2004 from many sources...in the same damn year that Metal Gear Solid 3 and Half-Life 2 were released in. Do you not see anything wrong with that? And well, ok, so this year they didn't force all their money onto Halo 3, as they had other exclusives to spend money on as well, namely Mass Effect. I'm not against BioWare at all, I love them in fact, but Mass Effect has an ass of a soundtrack, several gamers got copies filled with glitches and errors, and several other problems, yet no reviewer even acknowledged the chances for problems with the game and praised it. Again, that doesn't add up. I still love my 360 and I love the games on it, I just hate Microsoft itself.

The only advantage for Halo 3 is I get to play my friends from school on it, as that is like the only 360 game many of them play.

It's got awesome multiplayer (Gotta give credit where it's due). i just think for £40 and a 3 year wait Halo 3 (Or Halo 2.1) was Poor

Do you not see anything wrong with that? Not really, but then again I rarely pay attention to which games win what awards (my personal GOTY 2004 was Ninja Gaiden, by the way). I just thought Mass Effect deserved the "best soundtrack" ones it got, because I fail to understand what's supposed to be so bad about the music and honestly don't think Microsoft had to pay anyone off here... As for Halo 3's soundtrack, I bought it and it's not too special even though I generally enjoy the music in the Halo games (2 had the best soundtrack in my opinion, although 1 had its moments too).

Sorry...but just because you happen to think the music isn't good doesn't make the music not good. It feels like you're trying to belittle the opinions of people who think the music is good...which clearly there are several. Me? I haven't played the game or heard the music yet. I'm surfing Youtube videos trying to find an example...but yeah. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. myspace.com/fauntsThe "M4 Part II" song I mentioned, albeit in radio edit form. The full edit is over eight minutes long and more epic. This song is pretty different from the rest of the music in Mass Effect, though, except that it shares the same 80's kind of vibe that the Jack Wall soundtrack has.

I really like the game. I love being a bad guy in this game. I feel like a big man when I belittle those small colonists. Character creation needs a little more work though. I wanna be a fat spectre.

It's a dream of mine to go into space one day, and everytime I look in the sky I wonder about what is out there. The way the game has a fully detailed history and makes your choices mean something really draws me into it.
