You know the saying "Well it's all down hill from here"? Well in it's essence it means that things are about to get worse from this point. However..... If you were going uphill and then it was all downhill, surely this would be beneficial would it not? So should the saying not be "Well, It's all uphill from here"?

Hey that's right! "It's all downhill from here" just went downhill from here. Or rather, uphill.

1. "Uphill" is often used in figures of speech, ie "uphilll battle".
2. "It's all down hill..." can actually be used as a positive or negative saying. That's the magic of English.

They should require you to say, "I've reached the top of the mountain," before you can use the saying.

And "slim chance" and "fat chance" are used to convey the same meaning.

And a "near miss" actually describes a near hit.

Or some people using the term "I could care less" when they don't give a s***. Which is strange cause that would mean they actually do care.

Aw, and I thought this thread would be about The Question. Silly me. what exactly is the specific question you are thinking of? Well, in English we have "the F-word," "the N-word," and we "pop the question." Maybe he thought someone wanted to get married?
