A few days ago my soul got absolutely crushed as the Gamestop I was at had a shipment of Wii's and I wasn't sure if I was financially secure enough at that very moment to buy one.
In short, I SO regret that and I should have just thrown caution to the wind and went for it.
Since the holidays are over, are they any easier to find?
I was going to go online, but the way they jack up the prices with either bundles of games I'm not gonna play or paying more for that a new system retails for a used one, that is out of the question.
Does anyone know when they'll just...regularly be in stores?

I can deal with that. I guess I just gotta do the smurfing annoying thing and hit up every store on the phone before I go there because my car freaking EATS gas.

Make sure you get them to tell you they are in stock though, and not just tell you "Yes." thinking you're asking if they carry them. You never know when you get those incompetent employees on the phone. When the movie Undead came out, our supplier (I help my grandfather run his video store) didn't carry it, so I just was going to go pick up a couple from Wal-Mart. My friend called on the cell phone while I drove and asked when put to the electronics, "Yes, do you have a movie that just came out today called Undead?" Obviously, not hearing the other person, I then hear him say, "No, No not Unleashed. Undead." ............... "No, Unleashed has Jet Li. Undead is a zombie movie." ................ "Okay, so you don't have it then?" ................ "Thank you, bye." Then he hung up and told me "They said they don't have it." I decided to go by anyways, and when we got into the electronics/DVD section, on the end of the New Release rack there was tons of Undead's sitting right there. We grabbed a few and took it up to the counter. As we were being checked out, the employee looked at the DVDs and said, "Huh... Undead. Some guy called about this one five minutes ago and I told him we don't have it." Me and my friend just kind of snickered toward one another when he said that, and were like "Yeah, maybe you should actually look next time," towards each other. So since then, I've gotten very specific about what I ask for and how I ask for it.

I don't think they're getting much easier to find. I got lucky, I found mine the day after Christmas this year, just walked into Wal-Mart to get something else and decided to run by electronics just to see and there they were. Not too long after that, a friend's mom decided to get one, and as well as looking herself she's had my friend, me, and presumably other people keeping their eyes open and so far no luck. You probably won't have much luck with Gamestop. Before Christmas they were telling me that they weren't expecting another shipment in until late January and they were selling rain checks on those shipments. So unless something's changed their next shipment or two might be spoken for.

I'm wondering how much money Nintendo lost by not having more Wii's available during the holidays. Millions, maybe?

I'm wondering how much money Nintendo lost by not having more Wii's available during the holidays. Millions, maybe? I doubt they really lost money, as the reason they didn't have more available was the fact that they were selling out. I mean techinically they could have made more, but still.

I'm wondering how much money Nintendo lost by not having more Wii's available during the holidays. Millions, maybe? I don't know how they would lose money. There weren't any available because they all sold out. They sold more than either the 360 or PS3 in December.

You may have to contend with people that received Wii rain check coupons for Christmas. People are finding them on shelves tho. Just keep looking and save a little money here and there. By the time you find one, you'll either have enough for it or dang near close to it. Here's a news link www.gamespot.com/news/6184028.html?tag=result;title;0I recall reading a article about possible loss of money with no Wiis to purchase. For the life of me I can't find the dang thing.

Full disclosure: Department manager at a Wal-Mart.
After getting shipments every week since August (and 2 the week before Christmas), I've recieved one shipment since 12/25. And it sold out in 15 minutes.
It appears, if the numbers are correct, that my next shipment will consist of exactly 2 Wiis.
It's not getting any easier anytime soon.

What I don't get is...how are they selling so well (best of the 3 systems last I heard) but apparantly no-one can get ahold of them?

Yeah, I figured they just weren't making enough but apparently they actually CAN'T, which is nuts.

We had them at Toys R Us almost constantly. When I went to buy mine, I literally walked into to EB Games and said "hey, do you have any Wiis?"

I got lucky and knew someone through nintendo to get my Wii last year around Christmas. It's really a game of luck to find one, but if you keep looking, you'll find one
...
...eventually.
