I'm wondering how much money Nintendo lost by not having more Wii's available during the holidays. Millions, maybe? I doubt they really lost money, as the reason they didn't have more available was the fact that they were selling out. I mean techinically they could have made more, but still. But they've known about the shortages for more than a YEAR now, and they're still not ramping up production. Eventually, people will stop trampling each other to death to get one and move on, to PS 3 or X-Box 360.

They can't do it any faster unless every one builds more factories and it is economically unfeasible.

I got mine in April of last year. I skipped going to work, and happened to be at Wal-Mart when the shipment literally walked past me. Guess that's what I get for skipping work.

Every time I go somewhere over here, they seem to have Wiis in stock. Maybe because we're a smaller country or something.
But my mum got hers on a phone deal which was rather badass.

I ended up calling off work after I got mine. Of course, when I called in, I was greeted with "...yeah, you just came in and I gave you your check about an hour ago." Luckily, the manager was busy, so she said he'd call me later if he had any questions. Needless to say, I had a Paper Mario-tastic evening with the phone turned off.

I did some research, just to see if I wasn't being stupid about this whole thing, and apparently, Nintendo made 2 million Wii's in the third quarter of 2006, BEFORE it was released, and the production number they shot for in the fourth quarter was 7-9 million. (Wii was released during the fourth quarter of '06) Since then, they've tried to set a goal of 1-1.8 million Wii's produced every month.
Even if you take conservative estimates, because of chip shortages, etc., that should be about 21 million made, with almost 20 million being sold. If it was closer to the higher amount of 1.8 million, that's closer to 27 million made. If there was production shortages, it makes sense that they're out. If not, and the number produced is closer to 1.8 million, then they're sitting on inventory, which is stupid.
There is just not a lot of info being put out, so I guess I jumped the gun a little bit, but it is cause for wonder.

Although, to be fair, I haven't added up every Store that gets a shipment every few weeks. Or they could be really big in China. My guess is when the average eBay price drops into the $270s it's indicator of the supply meeting demand more than anything else.

It doesn't help that some stores don't count in sales figures apparently.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE.
Hung out with a friend of mine last night, ended up eating with some friends of his. One of them happened to be looking to move a Wii still in the box for the same price he paid for it from the store.
Needless to say, I now have a Wii on hold and I will be buying it later this week ;D

I know so many people that do this stuff with game systems. This or they buy it, play it, sell it, buy it again later, sell it again and on and on.
