Alright...I said I was gonna steal this idea awhile back...now I am actually doing so. Fair to MidlandThese guys are...wow. Their vocalist has one of the biggest ranges I've ever heard. Their musicianship is all impeccable... I couldn't name a genre if you asked me to. They're all over the place. Their myspace lists them with the genres Progressive, Folk, and Metal...that'd be pretty apt, I think. They're the first band that was signed to Serj Tankian's label, Serjikal Strike...and yeah, they're just really wicked. www.myspace.com/fairtomidland That would be the link to their Myspace...you should definitely go listen to them like...right now. And stuff. A good starter track would probably be "Dance of the Manatee" www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Svx-TT565UThat'd be the music video for it. Anyway...GO LISTEN!

Well, you sent me one of their songs a few months ago, and you already know what I thought of it, so I didn't think there was a reason to respond.

I vote hunting for Jawbreaker - they've already broken up, which is a fact I did not know when I was introduced to them, but I absolutely love them.

Fair to Midland is a band I've had on my friends list on myspace for a couple years now. I'm really a huge fan of Faktion (another one you ought to check out), and FTM was another in that "local Dallas scene" that I had added just because... to be honest, I hadn't listened to alot of their music, i'd just added them to have more bands on my list and show some support for a "local" band. It's awesome to see one finally hit it big, though I wish Faktion would have gotten more support during their short stint on Roadrunner. I've got to give FTM a deeper listen one of these days... I do enjoy Manatee when I hear it on the radio, and whatever their follow up single is isn't too bad either. And I love love LOVE singers with wide vocal ranges like that... hence me being the Crap's #1 Alter Bridge mark.

He'd seen them live a LOT and introduced me...the guys are just great stuff. And yeah, the vocals are just ridiculously good. You should definitely give them a deeper listen. Fables From a Mayfly was one of the coolest albums of last year.

It's pretty epic. whats a good album to check out first? I'd check out Fables From a Mayfly: What I Tell You Three Times is True. It's their newest, and in my opinion, their best. Inter.Funda.Stifle is a cool listen if you wanna hear earlier versions of some of the songs on Fables, and some other stuff that's not...it's the album that got me into them. I have yet to listen to A Carbon Copy Silver Lining...but you should check it out too just because it's by them.

I'll plug some music acts... www.myspace.com/hohohosoundThis guy's signed to my good friend's record label. Great refreshing accoustic folk rock/pop indie sound. www.myspace.com/ domefactor Broken link due to language for an online friend of mine's band Dome Factor, straight outta Austin. Great garage sound. Plus, dude left me make a music video for a techno song he did on the side. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkeoj7QDndU

In this day in age when everyone and their brother has a myspace page for their "band", I say "meh".

In this day in age when everyone and their brother has a myspace page for their "band", I say "meh". And I say "hot damn!" Mostly because I'm obsessed with music...and the more there is out there for me to devour, the happier I am. Myspace is a miracle for people like me.

About Fair to Midland: they're not bad, but I'm far from impressed...
All in all they're good, but to me they sound like "been there, heard that". Nothing really unheard of nor really special about them. It's very well done current metal-ish music, with a very polished, yet standard, voice, the usual song structure, etc.
