How can you make a Freddy movie without Robert Englund?

And the worst part?
They will probably get some hack european videoclip and commercial director to direct it.

Ok, I can understand remakes of the other 80s slasher franchises having different actors as the bad guy(as well...they had different actors play them throughout the series anyways), but Englund IS Freddy Krueger.

Well it won't make much of a difference to kids that hadn't seen the other films. Though I have and I'm not interested so far in this

Well, first, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that links to articles on that site never, ever, ever, ever, ever work. Second, this has "epic fail" written all over it. I was almost ashamed of myself for downloading Halloween and watching it for free. Therefore, I must go on record by saying "I will never, under any circumstances, watch this movie." And the worst part? They will probably get some hack european videoclip and commercial director to direct it. Yeah, that would be an absolute shame. I can't even IMAGINE what would happen if some long-haired Finnish guy directed this movie and... ...oh. HEY, I liked The Dream Master. Besides, I'd take any director short of Uwe Boll if it meant Robert Englund was in it. Besides: The Dream Master gave us Are You Ready For Freddy?

How can you make a Freddy movie without Robert Englund? Badly, I'm guessing?

Are they mental? Has Robert Shaye lost his mind?!? And why in the hell is Michael Freakin' Bay one of the producers of this film?
Not seeing it. Period.

I don't know how they are going to pull this off, and I feel sorry for the guy they get to play Freddy because he is going to be up against alot. I don't know how I am going to see this.

Englund interview
What about the Nightmare on the Elm Street remake? Were you contacted by producers?
RE: I've been here in Rome and around Italy scouting location for my new movie, The Viji for the Redark company, and I talked with my wife last night. She told me there was an announcement, so I need to discuss it with my agent. I think it's due to the great success of the Rob Zombie version of Halloween and I also liked a lot the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, even if I think the original by Tobe Hooper is perfect. Likewise, I consider the original version of Nightmare on Elm Street a classic of this genre, but I think there is always room for new interpretations by using the new tecnology. In the past, they were talking about a prequel. Anyway, I'm too old for this new version, otherwise it would be Freddy vs. Viagra...
Would you like to make at least a cameo in the new version?
RE: It would be a lot of fun. I'm a great fan of Michael Bay, I took my nephew to see Transformers on the opening day and I think it was terrific. So, yes, I would be delighted to.
What represented the role of Freddy Krueger for you?
RE: Well, I wouldn't be auditioning some gorgeous italian actresses these days if I hadn't played Freddy. I wouldn't have these occasions, if not for the publicity stuff I've done in Italy for the series V and of course for the Nightmare franchise. So, being Freddy was very good to me

I think I'm with the populous here in stating my utter distaste that Robert Englund will not be playing Freddy. No way, no how will I be seeing this.

Well it sounds to me like if they could talk him into it, he'd do it. He just feels he's too old for it now, and more than likely they will go with a younger actor. I think one of the big things that bothers me about this isn't just that he won't be in it, but the fact that it's not the 1980's anymore and Robert, along with everyone else has aged. I Hate that too. Immensely.

What???
Freddy is one of those roles that should forever be reserved for Robert Englund and Robert Englund only. When he dies I expect a DNA cloning to replace him and nothing less.
This is stupid, but it's Hollywood and it's a movie remake, so it's supposed to be I guess.

Don't have a problem with it, personally... okay, he's extremely closely linked with the role, but it's a remake... what's the point of casting the original star to star in the remake? Of course, I don't see much point in a remake, but if the current string of horror remakes are doing well, it's fair game - it's a good film, but it's not like it's some incredible work of art, it just happens to have been an innovative slasher movie from a director who has a habit of creating a smash hit ever decade or so.
Which reminds me... Wes, you're due another megahit shortly.

I used to think people hated remakes for the hell of it, but I soon discovered that for every decent one like Dawn of the Dead 2004, there's crap like The Fog, The Omen, The Wicker Man and One Missed Call. Ugh.
