A little back story to why I brought what would be my first comic book series.
See, very shortly, my local comic book store is closing down and moving to a location too far from me. I've only know him for a few months, but I've got alot of respect for the guy. He's great to talk to and
Most of the times I've been in there, I've browsed through the back issues he's had and, before today, didn't buy much from him (except Idendity Crisis, which is awesome and Last Hero Standing, which wasn't ...but it was cheap )
So before he went, I was going to buy a series from him. Problem is, I really wasn't sure what to start off with. The only problem with his store is, in terms of back issues, sometimes he misses out on a few, which makes it difficult to start something off. Like Green Lantern, for example. He's missing some of the back issues for The Sinestro Corps War which was a bit dissapointing, and even with the next issue, it's a prequal to the whole series, which really didn't help things. I was tempted to get all the Marvel Zombies 2 back issues, but I'd rather wait until it comes out as a graphic novel. Alot easier for me to get.
So then I saw it. Left hand bottom corner of the book case...all the three recent issues of Brand New Day. I already knew what happened in One More Day, so I really didn't need to get that series and I also didn't need to understand much about the history because...well, there's barely a history as of now to understand. I do understand the negative conotations of that (I've been reading all the threads about it), but for me as a new reader, I thought that it would be a great opppertunity to start on not just any comic book, but one of the most controversial to be released in the last few years.
So I brought them all and now I've read through them and I have to say...I like it. The art looks great, the dialogue is what you expect of something like Spiderman and the plot flows very well. I'm very excited about where they're going to go with it now that the first arc is ended and everything in terms of art and dialogue are changing.
Marvel and Comic Books in general, you got me. Now please, please try and keep me. I like what I'm reading.
