My fellow crappers, I have recently started writing for a Pittsburgh Pirates fan site. I just had my first article uploaded and would like to know what you all think. onlybucs.org/home/article.php/20080130140901767Tell me what is good, and what is bad. I want to be able to improve and grow as a writer. So tell me what you think.

It was a well written article and I really didn't notice any major grammar no-nos. Although I think the focus of the article could've also had a noticeable message of being that most people today would rather root for the 'safe team'. I.E. the Yankees or Red Soxs, instead of the local team who is at the time struggling. How that can be taken by someone who sticks by the struggling local team and the chance of seeing that team finally break though and get the last laugh.
Still though, well written editorial, I especially like the opening for it's originality.

It was well written as an "intro" column. As time goes by, you'll likely have a solid subject to write about and stay with it. In the case of this one, you began with a story about your childhood and then shifted into an introduction of sorts. Another thing you may want to practice, although not always necessary, is to try not using "I" in your columns. Over time, you'll be able to avoid the first-person references and write in such a way that the reader knows it's you telling your story. *Edit And now we all know your name is Steve.
