In the past, rra encouraged me to give reviewing a shot, and I had been waiting for a movie to start with, and this came on, a movie I had been wanting to see for a while now.
This movie from 2005 stars Ellen Page in the role of a 14 year old girl who, after chatting online, agrees to meet a 32 year old photographer(Patrick Wilson) online. What begins with a familiar hint of predatory intentions on Wilson's part quickly changes, when it becomes clear Page has had other plans, when she drugs him and begins putting her game into motion.
I won't give away too much, but do know that the cast and sountrack are kept to a bare minimum, making for a very claustrophobic feel that really adds to the film, I think. You really feel like you're stuck in there with them until Page says otherwise.
One of my biggest pet peeves in films is weak motivations for characters, along with weak characters in general, who add nothing. You will find none here. Granted, there are really only four characters worthy of mention, but each of them contributes.
Get this straight: the movie is NOT for everybody. Strong imagery, strong language, and a chilling subject matter isn't everyone's cup of tea.
However, I don't think that's a bad thing. I loved it, and I think a lot of people will.
I'd rank Ellen Page's Hayley Stark with any movie badass or Hannibal Lecter, and she's more believable at it than most, as well.
5 out of 5, Instant Classic, if you ask me. and since you're reading this review, I guess you did. Heh.

I saw this a month ago. It was unbelivably awesome. I made my wife watch it the next day. GREAT movie.

I thought this movie insulted my intelligence, because I did not believe one bit that a 14 year old girl could do all that.
Good review though.

Exceptional film, within ten minutes I could tell that Ellen Page was going to be a huge star.

The ending was garbage though. It almost ruined the rest of the movie.

Only part I could see her not being able to do would be SPOILER Her putting him on the chair with the noose. SPOILER END She did say she had done this sort of thing before, so it's not like she had no experience. Also, she said she had lied about her background, so she could very well of been older than 14.

I thought the movie was "3 out of 5" at best. There were a few too many "surprises" along the way. We should have heard about some of that stuff before so we would know the motivation.

I thought it was pretty good, much different from any movie I can think of off the top of my head. It did however kind of make me hurt in the pants about 90% of the time.
