Will this world ever realize that its standards of things are really just opinions. Stuff like "You have to wear a suit at a funeral cause you need to look nice." and stuff like that. If I know Im going to die soon, Im gonna tell everyone not to where a suit to my funeral. Its good enough that they are there...
I brought this up cause my dad got some situation from the City that we cant have our car on the front lawn because its an "eyesore". The car is on the lawn cause the driveway and street are getting fixed. Its really stupid considering he OWNS the house. So there basically saying:
"Uh, we know you own the house and land, but the car on the lawn looks bad so your in trouble."
Its just total bullcrap, thats an opinion and its HIS yard, quit wasting time on this and go fix some real problems...

I don't believe you. Unless movies and TV have lied to me, cars on the lawn are required in Texas, not frowned upon.

"The soup spoon is for soup!" The soup spoon is for whatever I use it for. Bitches.

When a good friend of mine died, his parents insisted everyone wear band shirts at his funeral. So I wore my Behemoth shirt.
And yes, I definitely agree with this post.
I have generally done things outside the norm my whole life. Not always intentionally, just at a certain point of feeling comfortable, I look around and find nobody else following my lead. Probably the biggest example is the fact I don't wear jeans, unless it's a requirement for work or for an engagement befitting nicer clothes. Normally, I just wear sweatpants.

-Lithium-™, I know how you feel. Two years ago, my cousin got a situation for parking in his mother's yard on a regular day. When I cousin parked three blocks away from his home, his tires got slashed. Fast forward to this year, my brother sets the same kind of situation for parking in the back yard of our house. I'm sorry if our home didn't come with a driveway and we don't want to path the back yard. Now my brother has to park in front of our house which is on a mean street. People around here aren't good drivers either. Monday night some dude was doing 360's on the ice.

I'll play devil's advocate on this one...
While this particular case sounds like a bit of a misunderstanding on the city's part, a number of households in my town do this all the time--sometimes lining up as much as three or four rusty old vehicles on their lawn. It IS an eyesore. And while, yes, that's strictly an opinion, it's an opinion of a large number of people--chiefly property owners and potential property owners.
One house looking like crap, even if that's strictly the opinion of the masses, can drive down the property values of houses nearby, which is unfair to them when they try to sell their home, especially if they put forth the effort to maintain their home so it would sell for a decent price. But the people next door let their house go to pot, thus driving down the property value of the surrounding area.
Now, the difficult line lawmakers have to straddle is, exactly what defines "an eyesore?" In the case of a vehicle, they can't just make a law or city ordinance that demands only "crappy-looking" vehicles be left off of lawns, so all vehicles are included. And they can't just say, well this home really isn't THAT bad, they have to adhere to the laws as written, which are "preventative measures," i.e. a citation here and there will hopefully provide incentive for homeowners to make certain not to let their home look bad. And, unfortunately, sometimes a simple mistake or misunderstanding happens along the way.
One thing I will say about your case. It sounds like a misunderstanding, and I know that in my hometown, you could visit City Hall, explain the situation and 9 times out of 10, they'd understand and drop the citation. You may have to attend a Code Enforcement meeting or something, though, but it could still save you from paying a fine. I can't speak for all towns, but they're very understanding here, almost to the point of bending over backward. (I know this, because I deal with them all on a daily basis.)

If I wanted your opinion, I'd tell you what it is.
Jed Shaffer ~If there's a law about cars on your lawn, then it is a real problem. Can't pick and choose which laws make sense.
