When did Hulkamania jump the shark? What was the most important point in time where Hulkamania began to fade away?
Was it Wrestlemania 6, Wrestlemania 7, Survivor Series 1991, Wrestlemania 8, or did it hold out all the way to Wrestlemania 9/KOTR 1993?
I'm wondering if any of you know of a single event (one particular match or whatever) that was the first crack in the Hulk Hogan empire fortress wall, where from then on, it would get worse, fans get bored of him, and he'd end up in the same situation John Cena is in today.
Or was it just smooth and gradual?

Hogan as a face definitely jumped the shark in WCW. I don't think the fans got sick of him in the WWF though. People will point to the 1992 Rumble, but you have to remember that Hogan was NOT booed at that event until he helped Flair eliminate Sid, which confused the heck out of me so I'm not surprised it did the same for a portion of the live crowd. In fact, I can't recall any other point where Hogan as a face was booed in the WWF, so it never came close to Cena level or Rock (circa 2002). The live crowds reacted well to Hogan at WrestleMania 9 and KOTR 1993, based on my memory of the two events.
Hogan's act definitely got old as the 90's came in (1991-92) but I don't think there was any point where he had backlash in the WWF.

My guess is when he was feuding with some guy called the Shark.
Seriously, it was more of a decline that led to the nWo. skillz just listed the moment where I thought Hulkamania began to show signs of decline (Royal Rumble 1992).

You mean a time when Hulk was "not hot"?

I was only in 4th grade, but I thought Hulk was finished when he dropped the WWF belt to Warrior. I had no idea he'd become the biggest, best heel in the business for a time as "Hollywood" when I was in high school. Luckily for him, his jumping of the shark didn't take place when he was "Nuclear Mushroom Cloud Chest Hair" Hogan*... * - He could've gotten over when that picture was taken if he called himself "Doomsday". That would've been a pretty sweet name back in the late-1970s.

My guess is when he was feuding with some guy called the Shark. RIP John Tenta. That was my first guess when I read this thread.

I was a huge Hulk Hogan fan as a kid. The first time I remember not liking him was when Savage gave him the elbow and revived him. Even then I remember saying "That's f***ing stupid."

Am I the only one who kinda wishes Hogan had actually jumped a shark in WCW?

well, if by' jump the shark' you mean when did his gimmick get ridiculous, the "reviving elbow" has to be it.
if you're asking when his popularity started to decline a bit because of staleness or a change in the wrestling climate, it was when big name WCW guys like flair and sid came to WWF, bringing their fans with them. these fans generally didnt like hogan, so some people started cheering his opponents.
its kind of ironic, that all the hulking up and other nonsense that people turned on 15 years ago is now the height of nostalgia, and hulk gets huge pops whenever he makes an appearance.

I always thought that when he challenged Yokozuna for the title at Wrestlemania literally seconds after Yoko won was when he jumped the shark

I thought when he first came back before WrestleMania 9 after his "retirement" match at wrestlemania 8. He seemed to have lost a lot of muscle mass and looked much older. It was ridiculous to put the title back on him at WrestleMania 9, but I can understand how it was more of a desperation move since at that time Bret was flopping as champ, Michaels was still green, and Lex had just arrived. Personally I think this would've been a great time to put the title on Mr. Perfect as he was my personal favorite at that time and pretty well over as a face.

I was hoping for Bret-Hogan at WrestleMania. That could have led up to a Savage-Hogan match at KOTR, but instead we got Yokozuna, who IMO is the most boring champion of all time. I was PSYCHED to see Hogan coming back in 93. I think the finish to the match at the KOTR was almost shark-worthy.

Two answers really stand out for me: 1. Post-WM4, when Savage had the belt and Hogan was devoted to the Mega-Powers pretty much full-time and started all that "I love Elizabeth like a sister" baloney. 2. When he stopped dying his eyebrows sometime in 1990. Exhibit A Exhibit B

Probably around 1994 but then by that point Goody Two-shoes babyfaces in general jumped the shark. It's just that Hulk Hogan was pretty much the reigning king of babyfaces so he probably catches the most flak for it. But then by that point people were also sick of one dimensional comic book character heels like The Dungeon of Doom too.

Hulkamania NEVER jumped the shark dude!!!
Hogan as a face however did, I think it was when he began to look smaller, when he came off the roids mid 1991 you really noticed a difference, he looked like he'd dropped 40lbs from his usual weight. But for WWE fans Hogan hasn't ever jumped the shark, he out popped everyone he's on the show with now and he did back in 1984.
WCW fans it was different, WCW fans got sick of him pretty quickly. I think it's because he wasn't their guy. Today, Ric Flair as big a legend as he is doesn't get roof-raising pops with the exception of when he's in his home town, I guess deep down even today people still identify with people more if they're created or associate with their prefered brand.
No doubt, Hulk's move to WCW despite what people say about how bad it was and how all the WCW talent was pushed out, was great for the company as it finally meant they could compete with Vince, sure but then the boom had well and truly finished but even in a down-period Hogan was a useful asset to have.
But sure, Hogan jumps back and forth over the shark depending on who you talk to.
