I saw one definite strike to the back of Mir's head, and multiple one's that were quite borderline if not the back of the head. I still think the ref did the right thing. Okay, the rules say nothing about "borderline strikes to the back of the head". According to the NVSA one strike to the back of the head is a timeout in the fight and a warning to the one who delivered said strike. After that the ref has the choice of either starting it from a standing position or in the guard. Just like in GSP/Hughes II when GSP kicked Hughes in the balls, they stopped the fight for a minute and warned GSP.

But if I'm not mistaken the ref has his discretion to decide if the strike was purposeful or not. Whether Brock realized it was illegal or not, I think he fully knew on the strike what the target was. That's why you roll over like that, so you don't get hit in the face, cuz you can't get hit in the head.

I could definately tell Brock was gonna get caught during that fight. He was to reckless and swinging like crazy trying to knock Mir out or get a ref stoppage. Brock is still pretty raw but at the same time he's still a former NCAA champ. Give him time and i think he'll be dominating the lackluster heavyweight division.
and one more thing... i was getting a little annoyed with people calling this match the "WWE guy vs the UFC guy". there are many fighters who have wrestling backrounds (not necessarily pro-wrestling) that have become great MMA fighters **cough**Randy Cotoure**cough**

I think a lot of people that are calling BS on the stoppage haven't watched MMA for that long. Now I'm not saying that EVERYONE that is calling BS is new to MMA, but it just seems that way. Brock is in no way tainted from the loss. If anything he comes out looking better because he almost destroyed someone. I thought it was BS until the replay. The replay made it pretty clear to me the ref made the right call.

The stoppage and point deduct was right by the book but just like a playoff game in any pro sport let em decide it on the field. I only saw one solid head strike with another glancing blow. To caveat off of another post, the old rules also allowed for severe testicular trauma. EX: Hoyce Gracie in UFC IV against this Korean guy in orange trunks. Hoyce repeatedly punched that dude in the total package until he tapped. Thank god rules change...sometimes

Lesnar shouldn't be fighting a man like Frank Mir in his 2nd professional MMA fight, he looked great he just hasn't learn the defense yet. He should be fighting some lower tier scrubs first and then he can rise to be something special. I agree, but i figure that for his debut UFC wanted the best buy rate they could get. I would wager there was a sharp spike in orders due to this fight, a pro wrestler vs. a former champ, and i do not think that would have happened if they put Lesnar with a mid card scrub. I know why they did it. It's just Brocks adviser and agents should've told him he wasn't ready yet.

Dana White selling out Brock is much the same of Vince selling out WCW.
We have this guy great look and will sell a billion, he is from somewhere else though.
Damn don't we have a former champ out there that can kill him?
(I've had three MMA fights, 1-2 record, the people I have fought were not great but fighters. They put Brock a rookie in with an ex-champ. That idea seems so dumb to me. Then at the same time they put so many of there reality show guys in with punks for the first three years.)

To my knowledge there has not been a HW season of TUF. And why is everyone poo-pooing about Brock being put against a world class BJJ and former champ of a fighter? Everyone was saying Brock would kill Mir and Brock himself said he could beat anyone. He said that he was gonna destroy the HW division. What happened to that?

Brock tapping out to a kneebar in just over 90 seconds makes me happier then the Giants winning the Super bowl. I cant stand Brock or his attitude and was thoroughly excited about the outcome of this fight. All the hype was completely bogus as I felt he looked like a lumbering bar fighter in there with the wild punches he was throwing. Next throw him in there with Sylvia and let him walk away from this sport as well.

I'm no expert to MMA, but at the very beginning when Brock took Mir down and started throwing this really painfully looking punches I thought: "OMG! Lesnar really IS a monster!" and I felt bad for Mir for having gotten into that. I was surprised and marked when Mir got the win by submission, since I was rather rooting for him than for Lesnar.
However, I have to say that this fight made me respect Lesnar a little more than before. In interviews he sometimes came across a little too cocky, but watching him go at it in a REAL FIGHTING SPORT finally sold me the monsterous freak that he is. I wouldn't want to have to stand in that rain of vicious punches for a split second.
This little fight sold me 3 things: Mir, Lesnar and MMA in general. Just from the action I think it was WAY more exciting than any WWE or TNA fight recently, since it was legitimate and unpredictable, it had a much larger feeling of sensation to it than a Wrestlemania main event could ever have. I would never think: "Oh my! That Cena is some tough guy! See that brutal clothesline?" or "Wow! He took a sledgehammer shot! That looked vicious!"... I would probably rather think: "Ok, so they wanted him to go over, whatever..." Unfortunately MMA will always lack the ridiculous drama the wrestling has and unless some charismatic well-known guy like Brock is involved most of it will probably pass me by. Did I just call Brock charismatic? Well, I better don't take it back or he might punch me in my nightmares....
