Inspired by the massive list of concerts some people are racking up here on the forum, I figured might as well make a thread where we share our favorite stories from shows.
Here's my top 10 (I know, I'm blowing my wad early so I won't have much to contribute as the thread goes on):
10. First time I saw Slipknot all kinds of insanity was going on. I think I may have gotten a concussion during Chimaira's set and that would explain my actions during Slipknot. Ya see, I've never had game but that night I did. The Jager girls (it was a Jagermeister musictour) were flashing the crowd and one of them got up on my shoulders to flash and rode me around a bit. Another one said she "f'n loved me." Then during Slipknot's set, I struck up a conversation with a girl from out of state who came to the show with her boyfriend and they got separated. By the end of the set she was hesitant to go and find him and gave me my first kiss, even though it was just on the cheek. We'll ignore how old I was at this point, hahaha.
9. A few years ago As I Lay Dying were opening for Shadows Fall (right around the time "Frail Words Collapse" came out) and there was a huge wait for them to come out. As it turned out, the lead singer wasn't there yet and they didn't know if he'd make the show. Well they occasionally gave us updates as to where he was including at one point saying if he wasn't on the ground by a certain time, they'd just skip them and go straight to Shadows Fall. Well he got there barely in time and it was a show like I've never seen before since as it turned out, he was flying in from Chicago where he attended his grandfather's funeral. Needless to say, it was a very emotional set, especially when they played "Elegy."
8. First time I saw Weird Al, I was in the second row with my best friend and his dad. Next to us were some rather large, nonsupermodel girls. Well during the song "One More Minute," Al left the stage and messed with the girls a bit, rubbing a scarf on them he was wearing and stuff. Well he leaned back across the row and was right in my lap. So yeah, I can say I've had Weird Al's head in my lap. hahahaha
7. Second time I "saw" Slipknot (the stage had to be a good 15 feet taller than where the pit area where I was at was in the crappy ampitheater the show was at) it was midsummer and ridiculously hot. Seriously, based on how we're represented in the Buffalo area, you guys would be surprised at how hot it was. Well Corey grabbed a bottle of water and all of us up front were dying of thirst and begging for some. Well Corey leans off the side of the stage and spits the water down, getting me right in the face before making the sign of the cross as though he was blessing us and then flipping the bird.
6. One time I saw the band My Ruin and the chick lead singer of the band interacted with the crowd like crazy including doing all sorts of crazy crap to me. One example was at one point she made the sign of the cross on me then grabbed me by the throat. At another point, she used me as a bit of a step as she ground her foot into my shoulder as though she were leaning on an amp instead.
5. I went to a local concert and at the beginning of the song "Looking for a Fight," the lead singer of a band called Inherence grabbed a beer bottle out of the hand of the guitarist and smashed it over his own head. Needless to say, he started bleeding like crazy and they still had 4 songs to go. He was given a towel at one point to clean off his bloody face but it wasn't doing much good. Well when the last song hit, he was all like "I've lost a lot of blood up here and I'm feelin kinda woozy but f*** it, I'm doin this song out there with you" and did the last song out in the pit despite losing major blood. Freakin crazy.
4. I saw (hed) PE at a radio station festival and while watching their set, the lead singer points at me and says, "yeah, you better watch the stage, motherf***er" to which I was all like "huh?" before a crowd surfer kicked me right in the back of the head. It was like his way of saying turn around, dumbass. Sure it hurt but it was funny as hell too.
3. The last time I went to see Nonpoint, there were criminally few people there. Well the place had a pretty big stage so Nonpoint before starting their set decided to bring all their equipment to the middle of the stage and have the crowd come up and stand around them as they did their set, which they threw out the setlist of and took requests instead. I can say that I have been on stage with Nonpoint. Also, a funny moment happened when the lead singer of Seemless (who is the former lead singer of Killswitch Engage) was celebrating their last night on the tour a little too hard and came out and called for them to play "that spanish song." Well Nonpoint's lead singer was like "which one?" cuz they have a couple Spanish ones and he was like "ya know, the one in Spanish." It was funny as hell as they went back and forth before Nonpoint gave up and played both Orgullo and Rabia.
2. This one is really personal and there is a long backstory that nobody has time for so here's the Cliff Notes version. My formerly favorite local band had recently had major lineup changes including lead singer and it was my first time seeing them since and I was nervous as to how much they'd change and what songs they'd end up playing. There was one song in particular that meant a lot to me as it was helping me get through a tough time with a complicated situation involving a girl (chorus: "You left me here as I fall apart. You were the only one to save me. Your lies are crystal clear as they tear through my heart. Now you're the only one to break me. TAKE HER AWAY!"). Well somehow the new lead singer must have sensed my connection to the song (and musn't have known the lyrics) since he put the microphone in my face for almost an entire verse. Needless to say, that meant a lot to me as I was afraid I was losing my main outlet of catharsis and would have to find some other way to channel my pain but everything turned out alright. Well, except for me and the girl, hahaha..........
1. Right before Dry Kill Logic took the stage at the New Level of Aggression 2 Tour, I felt a tap on my shoulder from somebody looking to get up front next to me. I turn around and it was Chris Volz of Flaw (well, Five.Bolt.Main at that time) fresh off their set right before. So he's standing right next to me and DKL opens with my favorite song of theirs, "Perfect Enemy," and when the chorus comes around, Cliff (the lead singer) comes over and kneels down, sticking the microphone between me and Chris so it's me, Chris freakin' Volz, and Cliff singing the chorus to one of my favorite songs. Needless to say, possibly the greatest moment of my life right there.
