Alot of prequel films aren't very good. Batman Begins is, sadly, the exception to the rule. Batman Begins is not a prequel. It is in no way connected to the Burton/Schumacher films. It's a new start. I always considered it a prequel because so few of the Batfilms ever released dealt with his actual origin, they just started "in progress" with him fighting various criminals. I guess I viewed it as an "origin story" for Batman's entire history, not just the Nolan series.

Technically "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is a prequel to "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

Honestly while I liked and own Hannibal, and Manhunter was decent for what it was ( Red Dragon being the same story was much the same)... Silence is really the only flick you really need. Manhunter is better IMO. That's not to say Silence of the Lambs isn't good, it's brilliant. But I just prefer Manhunter. Brian Cox is much more understated and chilling and the better Hanibal Lecktor (not a typo).

I have not seen it so I can not really judge it. I have read the first 3 chapters of the book but then I found a much better book to read and forgot about it.
But when I saw a trailer for it and saw young Hannibal doing some sort of combat training it made it look like he was training to be some sort of super hero instead of the psychopath that he grows up to become.

I liked it alot, but I may have to rewatch.. part of the problem is that it was so many years after Silence that I saw Manhunter that I've probably been Hopkinsized to where I compared Cox's performance to it. Good flick though.

It wasn't a "ooohhh, scary" kinda thing, it was the fact that he had the 1,000 yard stare down cold. Now, I love Hopkins' work, he's one of my favorites, but Cox jsut had that little bit of crazy that makes a great "quiet monster". Far as Hannibal Rising goes, I like the idea, I get it. It's closing the circle of his life, showing that he became what drove him mad in the first place (or part of it anyway). It wasn't the best of the films, but it was good for what it was.

I absolutely hated Hannibal
Red Dragon wasn't anything special.
And I completely skipped this piece of shit
The only movie that actually worked was Silence of the Lambs. That's how a serial killer works. It's not revenge, it's nothing elaborate and there isn't anything elaborate on how he kills them. It's just having a sick craving to fufill, in the most savage way imaginable. Lector wasn't ever anything great, in fact part of the draw to Lector to begin with, was just the psychological games he would play with people. When you take something like that and "give him a reason" to do what he does, it takes the fun out of it.

Manhunter is certainly a must watch, Red Dragon was a bit closer to the book but theres something pretty cool about Gil Grissom from CSI talking to Hannibal Lector. Also the In-a-Gadda-Da-vida shoot out at the end kicks ass.
