I watched it today for the first time and I have to wonder how and why exactly is this a Silence of the Lambs prequel? It's almost as if Thomas Harris (the writer of the Lecter books) took some random revenge thriller he had lying around and pasted "Hannibal" over the original killers name and called it a day, that's how disconnected it felt from the rest of the series. Even as unneeded as it was, they could have at least delivered on the concept of Hannibal Lecter before he went to jail. Like why not make a movie of him in his 30's being a psychiatrist who kills his patients? Instead we get an 18 year old "Hannibal Lecter" getting revenge for his dead Sister and hitting on his Japanese Aunt (?!) Red Dragon was so much better.

It's how he became the way he was, and it's completely un-needed.

Alot of prequel films aren't very good. Batman Begins is, sadly, the exception to the rule.

I dunno, I thought it was pretty good myself. It DID feel a little disconnected, but nonetheless I thought it was a great flick.
...okay, so half of that comes from the fact that I thought Gaspard Ulliel was EXTREMELY hot.

I didn't see the flick, but that's kinda how the book was as well. Plus, it's kinda like how the prequels lessened Vader in my eyes too.. sometimes you don't want to humanize your big bad villain.

It's not in the same continuity as the last Batman movies. I didn't see the flick, but that's kinda how the book was as well. Plus, it's kinda like how the prequels lessened Vader in my eyes too.. sometimes you don't want to humanize your big bad villain. Vader was humanized in my eyes in Return of the Jedi, but I get what you're saying.

While Red Dragon was pretty good, I honestly think that Silence of the Lambs is where the Hannibal story should have started and ended. That movie is damn near perfection on the screen.

It just lessened his feel as scourge of the galaxy and even his salvation in Jedi, when you found out what a whiny bitch he was pre burns.

The deal was that it was a movie and didn't really happen. The first time I that was revealed to me I spent nearly a week crying naked in the fetal position.

I didn't care for it either. I think something the studio didn't think of is that the one thing that made Hannibal Lecter so interesting in the first place was Anthony Hopkins. This is made obvious by the fact that a lot of people don't even know that The Silence of the Lambs is actually the second Lecter movie. Hopkins is the character, and without his performance it's just not that interesting.

Honestly while I liked and own Hannibal, and Manhunter was decent for what it was ( Red Dragon being the same story was much the same)... Silence is really the only flick you really need.
