An appreciation thread to a very underrated console, the GameCube.
I remember when I got it for Christmas. It was the cheapest of the three consoles and because my family was kinda poor at the time, we got it. I remember having fun playing games like SA2 battle, SSX Tricky, Day of Reckoning, and Star Wars: Rogue leader. My cousin would bring his copy of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros Melee, and we'd have an awesome time on multiplayer.
Anybody else love their GameCube?

Looking back, I really should have gotten a Gamecube instead of a PS2.

Its all right. The size of the discs is stupid though. One of the reasons I wanted a PS2 was cause it could play CDs and DVDs.
And Wind Waker is great. The sailings kinda annoying, but once you get that song that transfers you in the tornade it aint nearly as bad. I remember when I first got it I loved sailing around and getting all the maps though...

Playing Majora's Mask right now on the Zelda collection disc
And:
Mario Sunshine > Mario Galaxy
Some people might disagree, but Sunshine allowed for much more exploration and innovative mini games than I found with Galaxy

Dude, I don't think Wind Waker got a lot of flack after it came out. I think most of it was pre-release flack with everyone picking on the style. I admit... I got caught up in the "Celda" bashing the look of it fad, but once I put it in that all went away and now I actually love the art style of it. The colors just popped off the screen they were so vivid.

One thing I love about Nintendo is that the games never take long to load. You can put in a game and be playing within like 30 seconds...

I still play Mario Party and Smash Bros a lot. Great fun when you've got friends over.

I love my GCN. 'Course I've always been a Nintendo mark.
My friends and I used to stock up on beer, and sit around playing Mario Party, Smash Bros and Mario Kart for hours. Such a great system, and that's with out mentioning Zelda, and the Rouge Squadron games

I liked the Gamecube, in fact I preferred it over the XBox. In terms of must own games, I don't think it lived up to its predecessors, but it was still a good system in its own right.
As for Wind Waker, I think most of the criticism regarding the art style has largely subsided. I actually prefer it over the more realistic graphics of Twilight Princess, which I don't think will age nearly as well. Gameplay wise, the only thing that bugged me was the hunt for the Triforce shards near the end. It was just so tedious and it really disrupted the flow of the game.

I still use my Gamecube on a daily basis and never bothered to upgrade to a next gen system. MY GCN and N64 are two systems I will never get rid of.

I never owned a Gamecube myself, but it did have a bunch of excellent games. My favorites are Eternal Darkness and F-Zero GX.

Loved it, and the reason i got one? Because of the windwaker, i dont care how much shit the style got, it was the reason i wanted to play the game, such a beautiful done adventure especially the final ganon battle with the water going all around you.
the only "nintendo" game i have for the console that ive never been able to get into is starfox, which considering the amount of games i have for the console, tahts not bad
