my vote goes to the original. its one of the greatest films of all time in my opinion, but i do have to give credit to the 03 remake. it was the best of the sequels/remakes.

The original is superior to the remake, and as they are the only two I have watched I vote for the 1974 version.

The remake. I dont like the original that much. Its not creepy, just a low budget movie with no real backstory or character development. I guess that kinda adds to it, but still I dont really like it...

The original's the greatest horror movie ever made

The original, as it has the scariest damn scene I've ever seen in a horror movie. Watching it when I was 13 and Leatherface hits the screen for the first time... Holy Crap!

As par-for-the-course as it was, I still pick the 2003 remake over the original (and any sequel).
Probably having watched the original long after it came out, and after having watched several other horrors, took away a lot of the enjoyment and of the scare factor.
The original one bored me. A lot. Maybe back in the 70s it was the scariest thing ever made, but watched 30 years later... not so much. But honestly none of the "great horrors of the 70s" has done it for me

I voted for the remake of 03. The original one just made me laugh at how bad it was.

Part two. Bill Moseley. That is all. Chop Top rules. I enjoy Part 2 as well. Much more than the rest. I liked Caroline Williams's character and gotta love Dennis "Lord of the Harvest" Hopper. And I admit, Part 3 kinda grew on me after I listened to the filmmakers commentary. After Joe Bob Briggs took it down and went on a rant on it, though he made lotsa good points.

The remake improved upon many of the elements that the original was lacking. It's probably the best horror remake I've ever seen.

The original was not only really awesome, but it also inspired a whole slew of "Hey, we've got no money, but we can make some good horror movies" directors to make their own movies.
The remake had R. Lee Ermey.
BOTH had John Larroquette.

I almost like the original and the remake the same. But, in the end I had to go with the original.
