Manhunter for those that don't know was the first film that featured the character of Hannibal Lecter (spelled Lecktor in this film for some reason) 5 years before Silence of the Lambs. It was later remade into the also pretty good flick Red Dragon, but for some reason I really like this 1986 Manhunter version a bit better. Most of the characters come off a bit more real in this version then in Red Dragon, William Petersen is awesome as Will Graham, Tom Noonan is totally creepy as "The Tooth Fairy" Francis Dollarhyde and Brian Cox doesn't just play Hannibal Lecter he IS Hannibal Lecter, it's that good. It does stray a bit from the books actual ending, but damn it's still fun, a classic Micheal Mann 80's shoot out. If you're a fan of the Thomas Harris movies/books or just thrillers in general, Manhunter is certainly a must see film. At the very least you'll get to see Gill Grissom talk to Hannibal Lecter, how cool is that?

I saw a good portion of it, and I liked what I saw, it was interesting to see William Petersen very pre-CSI

It's quite good. Second best ( or first depending on if you talk to me or DiG) Lecter/Lecktor flick.

It's not bad, but I actually liked Red Dragon better.

My favorite of the Harris film adapations. I prefer Brain Cox's Lecter to Anthony Hopkins

Great film. It took me YEARS to find a copy of the Director's Cut on DVD... but it was so worth it.
